Tomatoes with your breakfast.
I have a friend in Atlanta that will have sliced fresh tomatoes or stewed tomatoes with a little sugar sprinkled on top with his breakfast every morning. He said it is a very common southern thing. True? |

Quoted:
Grits, not tomatoes. He loves his grits also. We had breakfast one morning when I was in town, a bagel and juice for me and eggs, bacon, grits, and hash browns for him. While telling me that I did not know to eat, he salt and peppered everything on the plate, mashed it all with a fork scraped it into the bowl of grits and ate away. |

I'm cooking a pot of grits right now. I've had tomatoes with breakfast, but never with sugar. I've seen people put sugar on grapefruit, but never tomatoes. |

When we would go visit our grandmothers, both of whom were as southern as hen shit, there would be fresh sliced tomatoes and home made "cat head" biscuits at every meal and grits at almost every breakfast. |
