I think I did a good job. Renting a 2 bedroom duplex and came home to an unknown truck parked in my normal spot of 3 months. Unholstered, and we into my house and very quickly checked each and every spot in the house. Opened closet doors and everything. House is one story. Turns out the neighbors had some friends over, after I knocked on the door and asked if it belonged to them.

SO said while she was pretty scared that I had a handgun drawn and had to search the house, she was happy I was prepared and acted quickly. Told her to stay outside (she followed me home.) She's the one that suggested I ask the neighbors if the truck belonged to them, after I cleared the house.

I thought it was a good test for me. I immediately cleared the living room and hallway to the bedroom, in order to get my 870. Looking back, I don't think I would have done anything different.

Advice for next time?

Lol. Ya. Chill out. Sometimes these things happen.

ETA: You got worked up because someone parked in your parking spot? This thread makes us look like retards.

Not assigned parking = you spazzed out.

Need pics of SO to determine if we should be angry with you about this.

If you suspect that a BG is in your home, do not go in.

Clearing a place by yourself is a bad idea. Doing it with a trained team is dangerous enough.

Sounds like fail all the way around to me.

Why would you "rush" into an unknown possible scene?

Why not ask the neighbors first if they know who the truck belongs too?

Good thing there wasn't anyone in there that may have already found your 870.

This! If you truly believe there to be an untruder in your "unoccupied residence" dont go in. Gun battles arent half as sexy as Heat makes them seem to be. Prior to entry you should do a complete perimter check (broken windows etc) and then make as much noise as you can during entry. Let them run out the back door as you go in the front....I'm a firm believer in protecting yourself and your loved ones, but safety is paramount.

So just curious. What would you have accomplished by running in very quickly?

Getting shot?
