where are you coming up with that? Are they going to build one giant refinery across the entire border? Get the EPA to magically declare the entire border as a superfund site?

It's going to be a class C criminal trespass.

Virtually all illegal immigrants can be charged with Human Trafficking under Texas State law, though it'd be difficult to prove.

If you mean by making stuff up to arrest someone, sure they can be charged with anything. Prosecutors and judges tend to frown on that, and words like perjury and official oppression start coming in to play.

Trafficking of persons has specific elements to meet to charge someone with, so explain how "virtually all illegal immigrants" can fit into those elements.

I'm thinking he's trying to beat out DeSantis for Veep on Trump's '24 ticket.

How about signing the gun bill on your desk first.

FFS, relax. You may not realize this, but between dealing with the Democrats playing hookey and the border situation, and trying to sign probably dozens of bills a day, he's a little busy.

He's going to sign them next week

“When is the Governor going to sign Constitutional Carry?”

We understand that you are all anxious to see these bills signed. We’re thrilled to let you know that Governor Abbott has announced that he will be signing these priority bills (including Constitutional Carry) next week at a special signing ceremony.

He's checking a lot of the right boxes lately IMHO. We could do a lot worse. He'll win the primary easily, the only question really is whether McConaghey decides to run.

Should have been built when Texas became a state. Politicians have been kicking this can down the road way too long.

Good, I hope he pulls it off. But he will get sued in the process because he doesn't have any authority to arrest illegals. Even though CBP isn't doing shit.

He can't arrest them for being in the country illegally, but most of them commit a hell of a lot of other crimes as soon as they step across the line.

Better to just do it, than to give Biden and the liberals warning, though.

Well according to history the reason TX came to be in the first place was because Mexicans did not want to live there so the Mexicans invited the gringos to settle there. I read that gringo settlers out- numbered Mexicans living there by 4 to 1 when TX gained their independence from Mexico.

It's not TX per se that the illegals want to go to but it's for what the rest of the country has to offer them. TX is just a way station on the bulk of the illegal's invasion trek.

The problem is there is not enough of a obstacle along the TX border with Mexico to keep them out so sometimes you have to sacrifice a limb to save the body.

Can a state conduct deportations?

Ports of entry are under control of the federal govt and I don't think deportation is a punishment that can be handed out on a state level.

So while he can undoubtedly arrest and levy fines, maybe even incarcerate for a short period of time, eventually they have to kick them loose... into the USA.

Not saying I don't support it, but this seems more like red meat for constituents/supporters then a process that will actually deter or reduce the number of illegals that wind up here.
