The ac in our house seems to have stopped working. It has been working fine the last few days, but doesn't seem to be blowing cold air. the thermostat is shutting the ac off well before the ac has reached its temp. Any ideas where to begin looking? The fan is staying on constantly, but the ac is cycling on and off every 5 minutes or so.

I would look at the tstat. The every 5min sounds like the time delay in the tstat and not reaching temp.

Check the batteries. I have seen tstats with low batteries when it would try to pull the tstat contact in it would die. Then be like the tstat just got powered up

Package unit or split system?  Indoor fan runs but outdoor unit cuts off may be float switch, or a pressure switch.

While far from really 'universal' they are commodity type motors.

The 'big name' ones are not worth paying for.
