I really do not like the new categorized listings feature.

This "upgrade" certainly has it's use and should be kept but I would like to see the site revert to the old format as the default view.

For example, no one will see this poll in Active Topics unless they select Tech Support intentionally and how often does anyone do that?

I saw this in active topics...

I like the new features with the exception of the active topics. I'd rather have all the active topics clumped together. But I don't do the programming around here so......

New active topics?

DO NOT WANT...

I browse the site almost exclusively through A/T unless I am going to start a thread...

I want to see the WHOLE THING when I click A/T, and I want to see it without clicking thru menus....

It would be fine if you could choose "entire community"  or "all active topics" .   I don't like it the way it is.

YES. it must revert to old style. or instead of doing ONE forum at a time, i can have a checkbox to select all of the forums i want to show up!

edit:

as of right now arfcom is useless to me. i cannot browse in the manner i am accustomed. im a sad penguin. time to go do something other then arfcom.

HERE'S A THOUGHT:

HAVE ACTIVE TOPICS ONLY SHOW 1 PAGE OF THE MOST RECENT ACTIVE TOPICS ACROSS ALL FORUMS...

I could care less to see 3 pages in 'General' if I'm missing everything that's going on in 'AR15', etc...

This is definitely a decision made to benefit the few over the many.  If there's such a strain on the servers, buy more servers with the money we pay.

The new active topics categories are ok, but the old system was better. If I want to see what is being talked about in the Handgun forums, I'll click on the individual sections (Beretta, Wheelguns, etc...) I liked being able to see what was being talked about on the whole board.

I liked the old system better, but I have another question. In the "My Active Topics", did the "+" and "-" button used to be there before the upgrade?

(ETA: I guess I meant only the "-" symbol. Wouldn't make sense to have the "+" in "My Active Topics", but you get the idea.)

If it was, I don't remember it. That option I would really like, but so far anyway, it doesn't seem to work for me. It would be nice to get some threads out of "My Active Topics", such as dedicated EE feedback threads and the "how to post an avatar" thread.

Or maybe there's a way to do this that I didn't know about?

ETA #2: Nevermind, just saw there's a dedicated thread to this one.

The sorted by category option is just going to make me use My Board more often. I'm sure I'll get used to it eventually though.

Menu on the left haters, we're already looking at pushing that to a bar above, just didnt get done in time and this was easy for the navigation.

People who do not like to click 1 extra time, or the organization. I apologize for the change, but the site is simple too big to continue on the path it was going. A few tools were broken down intentionally which have zero chance to return to how they were. I realize you may not like it at the moment, but we will continue to adjust the way everything is laid out and do everything possible to make it better. Please understand that by breaking it up, each tool is more powerful, faster, and capable of supporting more data. It's also freeing up a lot more resources that benefit performance. Let me put it this way, it's a LOT less taxing to click on every community to see pages of your MATs than it was to pull up a single page before.

how many people bought lifetime team memberships?
how many people renew their team memberships yearly?

membership revenue + advertising revenue + dealer/industry partner revenue = SHIT TON OF REVENUE.

the only reason i pay for membership is the "my active topics" button which is now totally fucked.

here's an idea, force the leeches on the site (non-paying members) to use this "new" style bullshit active topics, and let the PAY members use it the way it was intended and how it was when we PAID to join...

then when all the non-paying members pony up the cash... upgrade the servers...

problem solved.

If I understand what GB did, and I believe I do, it's not quite so easy as some of you make it out to revert this change.

ETA: But I agree the new format is a step backwards and I suspect the site will lose memberships over it.

If I wasn't a small-time mod, I wouldn't pay for the functionality the new AT/MAT offers.

And additionally, I really have to be suspect of the "system resources" this system is saving, considering that now everyone has to make 3 or 4 queries as opposed to one, and they - for some reason - go back years.

Well, what you have to realize is that what GoatBoy did is not intended to reduce the total amount of computing power required to run the site.  He simply is segmenting the site so that he can distribute the load more.  So yes, today the site likely uses just as much computing resources responding to search queries as it did before, but there is more beef behind the site to handle the load so long as it is distributed in this manner.

Again this assumes I understand correctly what GB did.  He may have done something different.  Personally I don't like this new format either and I think this can be done better.  I suspect GoatBoy's longer term plans WILL improve upon this but in the meantime I will probably let my membership expire.  I have no desire to re-up membership given the new architecture in addition to my displeasure with some of the moderation.

PLEEEEEESE change it back to the way it was before.

I don't expect something for nothing. If the constant refreshing of the MAT button
was costing too much then raise the price of Team memberships and buy more
servers/bandwidth.

I'll pay whatever the price to get my daily old-style fix of ARFCOM.

Perfectly said.

The M.A.T. feature USED to be one of the greatest benefits of being a TEAM member.  Now it's an annoyance at best.

if this is the new ARFCOM, I will not be back as a paying member. The MAT and search feature were the reason I bough a membership.

Why pay for something that is such a PITA to use?

I'm not usually a whinner but this is wrong.

I have been participating more and more lately and have used the EE to move some items and purchase as well.  I was feeling a little guilty and was on the fence on becoming a paying member . . . I won't now.  Active Topics was a good tool and a user friendly way to surf the site.

I'd like to have all the active topics together except for BOTD.  It's hard to be a moral man when people are shoving softcore porn up your ass when you are against it and this is a gun website more than anything.  Why does it have to be in Active Topics unless you search for it?
