It appear much different from when I went through a number of years back. The couple with the blue rifles are interesting. We didn't get any rifles like that when I went through, now I see they have them in their lockers. When did this come about? |

Yes not even A1's, 3 prong flash hider with no forward assist and the 22 conversion kits installed. The biggest obstacle for most was hemming their pants. Lol |

Giving out coins at basic? I wasn't Air Force but you used to have to do something over and above, not basic training, to get a coin. Nice barracks though. Everyone gets an "Airman's coin" for graduating. Are you familiar with the history behind challenge coins? I agree that most coins should not be given out like candy. I got a coin for completing my joint service school as did everyone else. We carry our coins religiously (beer is expensive). While I would never carry an Airman's coin, I stand behind the concept. |

I don't remember getting a coin in early 91. I don't remember it for my service school either, target intelligence. Though I admittedly wouldn't have cared and could have and just tossed it. |

We all got them in 2005, think I still have mine |

Would it kill the AF to keep their tops on when working inside, especially around young impressionable Airmen? This is why everyone craps on the AF, unless you're bombing something Everyone always loves on the pointy end of the stick God Bless AMC for what they do

Quoted: I am just here to read the USMC stories. I went through my tech school with a couple of Marines. A group of us were playing axis and allies when two of them decided they could jump off the second story balcony into a pickup truck bed below. Watching these two make the jump a couple of times it was funny when all of a sudden some dude comes running out yelling at them for jumping in his truck. I assumed the truck belonged to one of them. |

They didn't give them out in 1996 either when I went through. Did anyone catch the sign about halfway through saying to "ask for a supervisor" if you were discriminated against or sexually harassed? Must be the kinder, gentler basic training. Although when I went through it was only 6 weeks, now it's 8? |

Quoted: My dad was in the Air Force in the 70's. He said boot camp was like summer camp where the counsellors cussed a lot. I didn't get cussed at, but they did do a good amount of yelling and would ridicule you alot. One poor guys head looked like a bowling ball, one day the instructor just went off with jokes about it. Stuff about his wife expecting twin bowling balls, etc. We all laughed, but it probably wasn't as funny as it would be if we weren't stuck in training. |

Airmans coin. Every graduate gets one. We didn't have blue rifles in 03, except for warrior week. Quoted:

Is there 'safe rooms' for sensitive USMC recruits to suck their thumb in? I never served, just stocking the bon fire
Really curious about that 'mil speak at the end of the vid' 4:50 mark Is that a USMC thing, or an Army guy could understand it too? |

Quoted: Was there in 2006 for Master At Arms training. Their Galley (or whatever the fuck they call it, something like "AeroSpace Dining Facility") was fucking amazing. The one in San Angelo was the best I experienced. They had a short order cook that could cook up just about anything. |

Quoted: I went through USAF basic in 1979. A lot has changed for sure. We did not have coins and only saw rifles during the small arms training block, maybe two or three days. Those beds would not have passed inspection by our TI's. Pretty loose covers and corners. No family and friends "gauntlet" on graduation day. I do not remember more than half a dozen or so of the airmen in my flight having anybody show up at all. I LOL at the discrimination sign. I think about half the stuff we went through is probably prohibited now. No TI ever hit an airmen, but there was plenty of cursing and humiliation type stuff going on, especially during the first 3 weeks. In fact, here is my flight picture, from May 1979. Back in the blue and white name tape days. http://i948.photobucket.com/albums/ad328/slufstuff/mitchusafbasicpicture.jpg That is our asst. TI, Sgt. Juan Martinez. He was always the good cop. Our TI, SSgt. Pascuzzi was absent on picture day. He was a red headed Italian bulldog. Definitely relished the bad cop role. I don't remember the blue tags in 91 or the cussing, but it doesn't sound like much else changed. My base was an A7 base before converting the F16. |

Does the Air Force still provide housemaids to clean the barracks rooms and waiters to take your order at the mess hall? Greatest week of TDY I ever spent was at the AF detachment on Ft. Hood. The only maids I've ever had were in billeting, which is the exact same as every Navy Inn I've stayed at. And waiters to take orders? Were you high or accidentally at a Dennys?

His flight was at least twice that size. They also had a flag that my dad had to carry. He went through in 1975. |

When I went through in 2008 you got a trainer M-16 and you have to carry it wherever you go, and you have to practice disassembly/assembly in your free time. They just redid all the dorms from the 1950's. After the sex scandal the Air Force did a 180 on MTI policy, now they can't do anything bad like cursing or excessive discipline. |
