Going to Alice Texas for a short term work assignment. What is there to do there besides work. if I have down time I would like to go see some interesting things and eat some good food.
School me. |
|
you can always go visit Mario's meat market and cook your own
other than that... alice is a Podunk shitty little town surrounded by other Podunk shitty little towns getting away to corpus is your only chance at anything resembling entertainment, unless you're fine with just touring the big ass king ranch down south in Kingsville ETA: you should have no problem whatsoever finding good Mexican good though |
|
Alice isn't in South Texas, it's in Northern Mexico. Grew up in Kingsville, about 20miles SE.
Corpus Christi is your only option if you get cabin fever and prepare to be unimpressed. Well Ocean Drive is kinda nice. You can hit the Lex, check out the Executive Surf Club for lunch or dinner, or you can drive out to Padre Island and see the Gulf. If it were me, I'd be finnagling a way to get someone else to go in my place |
|
Take the tour of the King Ranch.
Eat a good meal at King's Inn. |
|
if you get a chance to eat at the king's inn give me a holler when you get back and i'll hook you up with a pretty good recipe for their tartar sauce/dip that you'll be certain to want |
|
eh, what the hell, the king's inn is a good drive for anybody, even when they're close...
you can ignore goofy shit like use French's worsterchire sauce
I also substitute ritz crackers for the saltines. this supposedly came from an employee, and it's pretty close so I believe it. also got another recipe i'll see if I can dig up, they're a little different from each other the world should not be deprived King's Inn Tartar Sauce by ____________ Put all ingredients in a very large mixing bowl and mix well 1 qt. jar of Kraft's Mayo 1 Tablespoon Horseradish 2 Tablespoons of Worcestershire Sauce (French's) 2 Tablespoons of Louisiana Hot Sauce ½ of a lemon juiced 2 teaspoon or 1Tablespoon of Garlic powder ( I used lots) Chop in chopper or Food Processor 1 medium onion 2 medium or 1 large green bell peppers 1 medium jar of pimentos (Drained) 3 long sticks of celery 2 packet of Saltines Crackers Choose one of the following: Use in Food Processor also 20 + chillipequins or 5 big fresh jalapenos or 5 fresh Serrano peppers Salt to taste ( I find that everything is salty enough) Mix thoroughly until consistency is just a little runny. It will thicken in Frig. You can always add more crackers later if needed Too many crackers makes it too thick Adjust peppers to your taste. I have mixed chillipequins and Serrano's together Store in sealed container in Frig. I have kept it up to three weeks Other uses: Try mixing the tartar with a can on tuna!! Makes great tuna fish Serve over tomatoes or avocados |

found the other
1 onion 3 cloves garlic 3 boiled eggs 4 stalks celery 1 quart mayonaise 1/2 bell pepper 1 small jar pimentos serrano peppers to taste 1 1/2 packages ritz crackers put all ingredients except mayo & crackers into food processor. grind well then add mayo & crackers in the mix. makes a damn good seafood dip, but its a meal in itself if you just eat it as a dip with more ritz crackers...................... |
