[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Alice in Chains (Page 1 of 2)

AIC has never been underrated. In their time they were popular, highly regarded, and still have a strong following. If Layne hadn't split and got eaten alive by heroin, they'd still be going strong I think.

New Alice in Chains kind of blows, but the original band is one of the greatest from the 90's Jerry Cantrell was always the lead creative force behind AIC. But he's so burnt out that he just doesn't have much to offer any more. |

But he's so burnt out that he just doesn't have much to offer any more. What leads you to that conclusion? Just my opinion after following his work for twenty years. I loved the Jerry's solo albums and the original AIC, but Black Gives Way To Blue was unnecessary. If I could have one band back from my childhood, it would be AIC. I don't listen to rock at all anymore. Modern rock is so divergent from what I grew up on. I'd love to find a new band like Alice. This Avenged Sevenfold, Korn, et al, are intolerable. |

<––––- Die Hard AIC Fan
Never got to see them while Layne was alive. The old band is AIC. The new AIC is the best they can be with what they've got. Things have to be pretty bad to produce an album like Dirt though (their best IMO). They can't go back there. |

They are not underrated by a long shot.
I saw them in 1993 at Lollapalloza in the San Fran Bay Area, and they destroyed EVERY other band that night. Primus was the last act on and they were on home turf...once AIC left the stage, people started leaving in droves. The only band that was anywhere near them was a very young Tool on the sidestage.(Yes, I saw them both and they both kicked ass!) AIC was better live, hands down. Layne and Jerry sounded awesome together and they had tons of energy. I can stll recall how big the mosh pit was as the Shoreline when they broke into "Damn that river". I also still get chills when I remember when they played "Rooster" as it was even more haunting live. The new stuff would be great if Layne was still here and on the album. But then again, if Layne had beat his demons, I think they would have continued to release great albums to this day because they had the ability to make a crushing album of despair(Facelift or Dirt), but yet could make mellow, haunting music(Sap/Jar of Flies) I still consider AIC one of the best Rock/Metal bands of the 90s. |

Man In The Box

Don't follow lyrics
Hey, I ain't never coming Home Hey, I'll just wander my Own road Hey, I can't meet you here tomorrow Say goodbye don't follow Misery so hollow Hey you, you're livin' Life full throttle Hey you, pass me down that Bottle, yeah Hey you, you can't shake Me round now I get so lost and don't Know how And it hurts to care, I'm Going down Forgot my woman, lost my Friends Thinks I'd done and where I've been Sleep in sweat the mirrors Cold See my face it's growin' Old Scared to death no reason Why Do whatever to get me by Think about the things I Said Read the page it's cold And dead Take me home Yeah, ya think? |

The Face lift album greeted me when I came home from Desert storm. Loved them ever since. |
| My first concert ever was in late '90 or early '91 at Mississippi Nights in St. Louis. We went to see a band called Extreme and we had never heard of the opening group. We had a spot about fifteen feet from the stage. Turns out, the opening act was Alice in Chains! About thirty seconds into the first song we were all looking at each other and were all wtf! These guys kick ass! I've been a fan ever since. Saw them again with Van Halen and one other time. |

It's really impossible for me to have "one favorite band" there are so many bands from different era's an my music collection is diverse.
But, AIC has at times and has always been very close to being my favorite of all time band. Jerry C, is the brain behind the band, but layne is the one that made AIC great. I love jerry's solo stuff, but as awesome as he is, he's just lacking a part. That part is what layne brought to AIC, its what made the band. I like their new stuff, but like many other bands have found out, its tough to replace a frontman. Layne just cannot be replaced. I hope they can create their own sound instead of trying replicate the old AIC. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |
