| OK the part of the movie where they pull ammo from everyone. What did Drake and Vasquez pull from their smartguns? I never understood what that part was |
|
It's supposed to be a power cell. They have a lot info about the M56 Smart Gun at Xenopedia Wiki
Thought this was interesting. "The M56 featured in the Aliens was constructed by taking the MG-42 German machine gun attached to a steadicam rig constructed out of old motorcycle parts. In the film, the M56 was used by PFC Vasquez and Private Drake."
Found a cool Aliens video on you tube. Aliens is a great movie.

Would make sense, as unloading a presumably "Belt-Fed" weapon would be logistically tough in that situation, unless they planned on just leaving the ammunition. Drake shouldn't be expected to carry all that!
I always thought it was weird that each marine was carrying only one magazine, regardless of the 95 round capacity. |

And why wasn't there a metric crap-load of ammo in the APC when they salvaged the equipment out of it? Ah well, movie magic I suppose. |

They had a much better graphic novel written about the events following "Aliens" that centered on Hicks and Newt. It involved an eventual Alien infestation of Earth, and an incredibly insane general "conditioning" aliens with their fear of fire to retake the planet. It goes as well as you'd expect.
Oh, and Hick's face is all fucked up due to the acid contact in the film. And there is even cooler weapons than the pulse rifle. |

ive seen working versions of pulse rifles, but not seen if anyone made a version of the smart gun that fires.
that music video was from the Aliens laser disc, not sure if they put it on the bluray or the new rerelease of the dvd set. the old 4 disc set did not have it. |

On the subject of Aliens.... what happened to the series? The first two were awesome.... Alien 3 and Alien Ressurection were ok at best The better question is, why didn't the first sequel follow the normal sequel curse that applies to most movies? Answer is James Cameron. Otherwise, the series is just typical Hollywood; innovation followed by third-rate lackeys to ride on its coattails. |

The last two as well as those horrible AVP movies were made by Hollywood studio executives. Usually, the more the studio gets involved, the worse the movie ends up being. |

I never understood what that part was In the novel which came out at the same time as the film ( it was by Alan Dean Foster, as I recall ) the devices were the power couplers that ran the power feed and controls from the smart gun's pack. No power coupler and the gun would not run. Drake and Vaz carried spares. |
