Cliff note version: My foot measures 10 5/8", which according to the below chart (linked) I am a size 10... However, the manufacturer notes that the type of boot I ordered is slightly larger than my normal size. I bought a pair of Altama Combat Boots online and went with a size 11 (wide)... When they arrived they were obviously too long, extending about 1 3/4" past my big toe while wearing basic cotton socks. Other than the length, they were comfortable. I was going by this sizing chart... The size 11 is listed as 10 7/8". After receiving the boots, I measured my foot once again and I came up with a 10 5/8" (size 10) measurement. In the linked sizing chart above, it says to note that the Combat Boots are slightly larger in fit than your normal size. So, if the size 11 extends 1 1/2" past my toe, what size should I go with? Again, the correct measurement for my foot is 10 5/8", with that in mind and the above manufacturers note, what size do I need? They will usually be worn with ordinary cotton socks, but the ability to comfortably wear thicker (wool?) socks is needed. I really don't want to send these boots back more than once, so getting it right this time would be good. P.S. I also sent this same message to Altama, but I need to send these boots out either Tuesday or Wednesday and can't be assured I would get an answer from them in time. |

I'd try a 10 1/2...if your not trying footwear on somewhere you likely wont get it right the first time...or even second. You can always add a cheap one dollar insole over the factory insole to take up a little space with cotton socks, when you wear thick wool socks pull the small insole out. You'll probably wind up with a 10 1/2 or 10. I found out my size by sticking my foot in a handy dandy machine at reception battalion when I was in the Army...still wearing that size. |
