A cheap bolt gun with pretty solid accuracy. Edit: and the ammo is plentiful and cheap when compared to similar calibers. don't contemplate too long if your gonna get one.. prices just might go up, again.. This is accurate. I picked mine up for $60. These days, I can't find them for less than double that. |

I say get one just for the fact that they are cheap, with cheap ammo, and come close to 30-06 ballistics. I think they would be more accurate if it wasn't for the shit sights.
With that being said, I have had one for about 2 or 3 years (and a case of ammo) and I have shot maybe 100 or so rounds through it. The biggest knock I have with it is the fact that you have to clean the barrel with at least hot water after every time you shoot. It can be a PITA. |

Awesome bang for the buck. A cheap gun that you don't worry about. Kicks like a mule. Interesting piece of history.
If you want one get it. I'd say you aren't missing much if you don't get one, unless it appeals to you. I have two, while I rarely shoot them anymore, they are really fun and I'm glad I got them when I did. |

I have never understood why people say they kick hard.
I don't know if they're comparing it to ARs or what, but I don't really consider the M44 recoil to be anything unusual or out of line with all the other battle rifles of the period. The Enfield being the least and some of the 8mm mausers being the worst. |

Ive been thinking about buying one too.
Damn friend of mine got a Mosin Carbine for 20 bucks a year ago when some old lady was cleaning out her dead husbands stuff an found one in the closet. She called the fire department to dispose of it because it was loaded, came next door to my friends house while waiting for the FD, told him about it, he goes back over with her and unloads it and asks if she would sell it. She asked the FD if that was ok since they had already gotten there which they told her it was hers to do with as she pleased so she looked at my friend and says 20 dollars to much for this old gun? He said he thought about offering her ten since she was ready to just give it to the FD anyways but thought he better just get it while the getting was damn good enough. |

Inexpensive, fun to shoot, ammo is cheap.
Accuracy varies. Some are tack drivers, others pattern like a shotgun. Everything related to them has gone up in price over the years. I bought a couple 91/30s in 2009 when they were $105 OTD with a bayonet, tool kit, oiler, and two ammo pouches. Now they seem to sell for between $150 and $170, and they leave out the accessories much of the time. No big loss with the ammo pouches and oiler, but you might get a bayonet, and the tool kit is handy. Surplus ammo was $67 a tin in 2009, now it is closer to $100. Still pretty cheap all things considered. After SH a lot of guys out here dusted off their 91/30s and began shooting them through much of 2013. I still shot mine regularly. I had a few tins of ammo put away, and with nothing certain at that point, it was a more affordable way to spend an afternoon shooting. Cleaning up after running corrosive ammo takes about 15 minutes longer than a normal cleaning. I bought a bucket and a turkey baster from the Dollar Store for $2. Hot water and blow dry with compressed air. Good times..... |

Nothing they're junk. ![]() I don't know why you think they're trash, that's about the only thing you can have in your state ![]() I've been looking at them too, but so far haven't pulled the trigger. So, what does this do that my half-dozen or so .30-06s can't do just as well or better? AND I'm going to have to stock a new caliber of ammo, to go along with the dozen or so I already have to keep up on? Pass. Interesting but clunky, not anything I want cluttering up the ranch. About the only reason to want one is cheap ammo (which will not last) and I reload, so I can shoot my aught-sixes cheaply enough. If one fell into my lap for $20, sure. At $140, pass x2.
