So last summer amazon removed the $3.99 next day shipping for Saturday deliveries, making it around $8-10. I just went to order something that I want to be delivered tomorrow, and they now charge $6 for Next Day delivery....WTF |

Still sounds cheap for next day shipping. I sell and ship often. The thing is, is that I pay to get $4 next day air. Seems like every 6 months they are raising the shipping rates. Damn that sucks, I paid for the FREE two day shipping plus as an added benefit I get to watch some movies they have. Start ordering what you want/need an extra day early save your $4

I been thinking about getting a Prime membership. Worth the $80, they do have free prime memberships out there, you loose some benefits but I believe you get the free 2day shipping. Student memebership is around $45. Not that hard to get a .edu mail act. Maricopa cty comes to mind(google is your friend.) |
| Prime is an awesome deal, but I don't expect Amazon to lose their shirt shipping stuff next day for $4. I've taken advantage of it on some items that I'm sure cost them $$ to ship. They get awesome rates, but they were probably losing money big time on heavy items going next day. The Amazon stock I own would prefer that they don't lose money on next day rates. |

Entirely depends on your location to the warehouse where the product is coming from. I have seen 1-day delivery on Satuday at normal $3.99 pricing a few times this week, still.
ETA: Prime is worth every penny. I order nearly EVERYTHING off of Prime. Better prices, don't have to deal with bullshit stores and lack of availability, better warranty service/returns/customer service, and direct to door. |

Sounds like they figured out the pricing structure was losing money. They knew that a long time ago. I read it in their SEC filing. Losing money on Prime shipping is a strategic move to get more customers. I signed up for Prime because I wanted to order two heavy a/c units overnight. That was a great deal, but I haven't used overnight since. Free 2 day shipping is fine with me. I did like having the option, but I'll still participate in prime without it. If most people are like me, I can see why they are adjusting their program. |

It was inevitable that they were going to tweak prime over time as they learned how customers used it. It's still a pretty darn good deal 9 times out of 10.
I find myself constantly thinking about something I need to run out and get only to realize I can just pull out my phone and the thing shows up in a brown box in a day or two instead. Prime is a great way to eliminate all of your non-grocery shopping. |

I too am a bit upset by the changes as it was advertised as free two day and $3.99 next day when I signed up. Now a lot of stuff is add on and the next day is getting more expensive.
It's one thing to raise shipping prices for normal customers but to raise them on people that are paying to shop there doesn't seem right. |

I don't think so. Economic reality always sets in at some point. That's just the way things are. What you are buying with Prime is basically a "group rate" that Amazon worked out with UPS since their per lb costs do go down with volume. There's definitely an efficiency there but it's not like shipping a mattress across the country overnight for $3.99 is realistic long term. I've had 40" LCD TV's shipped overnight for $3.99 which otherwise would have easily cost $40-$50 iirc. |

I mean, I didn't read all the fine print ( i'm sure there is a part in there where Amazon reserves the right to increas/change the shipping deals), but when I paid the $80 or so, it was under the premise I got free 2nd day shipping on Prim eligible goods. I'm not pissed. Just noticed the changes the last few orders and on other things I was looking at. I was wondering if something was different as I noticed some things were now 3 days, additional money, etc. |

I believe the Saturday and next-day delivery cost depends strongly on the item, how much it weighs, and how far it's going. This. I ordered a 50+lb Yost vice. Two days shipping free with prime. Overnight Saturday delivery was an extra $22.99. I didn't need it that bad. Mike |

Been a Prime member since I dunno, 2007? I understand the realities here and can't get too upset about them changing the pricing structure for overnight. I've been a bit annoyed with the add-on program but as long as a large majority of items remain free two-day, I'll take it. |

Sounds like they figured out the pricing structure was losing money. My guess is the whole Prime program is a realized loss-leader. I know I've ordered more than I ever would have from Amazon had it not been for the Prime program. I'd imagine that what they lose in shipping cost they make up for in sales volume. |

They were only going to take it in the ass 'til they got enough fish hooked. Enough fish are hooked. This is true. Bezos wanted Amazon to become as thoroughly entrenched as google has become. They've pretty much hit it. Now, they're bending over backwards to charge tax on people and they're nerfing prime. It's a calculated maneuver. They'll lose some customers, but they'll make enough off the ones that stay to counter it plus more. I have prime (student prime, half price). I still use Amazon for a lot of stuff, but I no longer use it as my go-to place. I don't assume it's cheapest there anymore, because often it's not. Number of fucks amazon gives about me? Zero. Not sure what I'll do when I can no longer renew prime at the student price. Not sure I can justify $79 a year for that. |
