My wife ordered a book for me for Christmas and they didn't have it in-stock because they said it wasn't on the market yet. I got curious since the book it printed in the UK to see if was available on the British Amazon and sure enough it was. Then I check Canada's Amazon and they have it stock. How in the hell does the US website not have the book. I can understand since the book is printed in the UK that they would have it, but Canada gets a lot of their goods transported to them through US ports. And its not like Canada and the US don't share a border. Anytime some orders a book like my wife did do they ship the damn thing from Canada to the US and this ship it to the customer? This is just another instance of that damn website pissing me off with stuff listed as in-stock but not really, long purchase processing, horrible shipping times, and down right poor fucking customer service. Has anyone else had similar problems? |
| I ordered my wife a necklace for Christmas. It was supposed to ship on such and such a day and get to my house Dec 11th. So I wait, Dec 11th it doesn't arrive. Same thing on the 12th and 13th. So I email customer service and I tell them that my item didn't arrive and when I check the tracking number with USPS it states "notified of pickup." I get a (generic) reply from them telling me it should arrive by the date that they gave me. I reply "how the hell is it supposed to get to me by the date you gave me of Dec 11th when it is now the 14th! Take a minute and actually look at what the problem is." They said the order must have been lost and they will overnight it for me but if I wouldn't have bitched I may still have been waiting because customer service wouldn't take the time to read my complaint. |

I spent about $1,000 for Christmas presents on Amazon this year, and a similar amount the past four or five years. Only once have I ever had a problem with an item delivered to the wrong address (UPS's fault, not Amazon). Amazon sent out a new item and expedited the shipping, completely at their expense. I realize my experiences are mere anecdotes, but I've spent a ton of money with Amazon and have never had any trouble with them, whether at Christmas or any other time of the year. -James |

i do a good majority of my shopping at Amazon. I really like that most products I am interested in have user reviews. I am a member of Prime and get 2 days shipping on most items. I am overall very happy with Amazon. I don't return much of what I buy so I don't know how they are on returns- but the reviews help me decide. I wish they made search easer for items sold at Amazon vs other marketplace stores, but overall they provide a good shopping experience. Not the cheapest usually, but the Prime program has me hooked. |
+1 One Sci-Fi Author I read takes about a year to get his books in to the US after they are out in the U.K. I just order them from Amazon UK. Takes about 2 to 3 weeks, but I get my book a year sooner. |
Man, this quote says it all! I'll have to concur with the majority; I've used Amazon for years, especially during the Christmas season for gift shopping. No problems. Returning an item can be a little bit of a challenge, but is sure beats the shopping mall rat race. |
| Don't get me wrong I have ordered things from them with no problems before. Though I seem never to have any luck with them. About half the time I order something I have a problem. Its one of the reasons why I don't buy from them much anymore. Unfortunately most of the aviation books I read can only be found on their website. So I do have to keep using every once in awhile. |

I like Amazon. Never had an issue with them. I especially enjoy the free UPS shipping here and the free shipping to APOs when I was in Iraq. When doing mail order, or internet orders, it's silly to expect a package to be on your doorstep at exactly X time on X day. |

I haven't purchased from Amazon in years, but it sounds like they've made improvements in their customer service. There was a time when it was impossible to find a phone number for customer service listed on their website because they didn't want to talk to you. I guess that's been fixed too. | You do know you can order stuff from amazon.co.uk and have it shipped right to your door, right ? As a bonus, the prices are cheaper than shown because an export order does not need to include VAT (sales tax - in the Uk its included/hidden in the displayed price). UK VAT is currently running at 17.5% in the UK (gotta pay for socialized medicine somehow). Shipping was very reasonable last time I ordered. |
