Model 1898 Krag Rifle

The fantastic rear sight with windage and elevation controls plus a flip up peep sight.  It is my favorite sight other than the 1903A3 Sight.

M1903

The most horrible sight ever in my opinion.  I hate it and wished Mojo made their mrico click peep sight for it.

M1917

Fantastic sights. Only fault is it has no windage control.

For all the years I've owned this rifle.... I never realized that it saw service as a British Home Guard Lend Lease. At some point in this rifle's history; the red band to distinguish it was removed. It still has traces of the red paint. I never noticed it until now.

The barrel is the original Remington barrel.... dated 2-18.

Out of them all, I really think the Krag is the best in terms of being a competitive rifle for long distance shooting.  I know folks love the M1903 sight, but in my opinion the M1905 sight is shit.

Nice collection, I have a Krag and x2 03A3s. Looking for a nice Rock Island Arsenal M1903 because I grew up not too far from there and I would love a M1917, preferably a Winchester.

Mine still has the band, and some range card that means it was used in some Nordic country (forgot which one ).

Denmark. Mine went to Denmark after the war since I know they ground off the bolt stop on the follower. You're rifle is how mine probably was before I got her and the previous owner probably stripped the paint and range card.

Denmark. My M1917 was a Canadian Lend-Lease rifle that went to Denmark in the 1950s. The Danes shot it so often that they put a new (superb!) barrel on it. :)

Original Eddystone barrel.

CAI re-import marks.

So these things had a bolt stop?

ETA: It looks like a few of us got some rifles from the same import batch. Mine has Canadian marks on it, too.

I lust after a krag rifle. The action is sooo smooth, and oozes the power of nordic engineering.

I have a Krag, was supposed to inherit the 03A3 and the eddystone. Grandfather died before

he could give them to me and half sister took them. I don't even know where they are. I feel

she sold them.

I like the rear site on mine, you can move the lever on the front and the whole

site swings for big windage adjustments.

There's a fourth,  no not JP Hara.......the 6mm Lee Navy.

They're pretty hard to come by.  Much rarer than the Krag.

BTW the Krag had smorgasbord of different sights throughout production.   In the end it was nearly the same as the M1903's sights.

I have a 1903 cartouched 1898 model.  A little rough.

1. M1903A3 in a Type-C stock.

2. Some other type of M1903 in a Type-C stock.

3. A Kar98K captured and put to use by American troops because all our other bolt guns were shit.

Besides the Lee-Navy, there is also the older Lee bolt action (2 models, IIRC) rifles in .45-70 used by the Navy and Marines before the Lee-Navy was adopted. Also the M91 Mosin-Nagant, used not just by militia but also by Federal troops during WWI to a limited extent.

None of them were adopted by all services. The M91s were logistical issue due to being in Russia, that was the Polat Bear Expedition. The Krag replace d the 6mm Lee Navy. They had issues too.
