For those of you who have been watching......

Is the friction between Paul Sr. and Paul Jr. for real or is it just a ratings ploy?

Seems contrived

Wife and I were just talking about it. With the show losing it's luster and laying employees off due to lack of sales, I'm going with it being a ploy.

Sr and Jr fighting on there has always been real although there is some editing to it it is constant and ongoing and that came from one of the guys that was on the show.

those guys are complete douchebags who assemble parts made by other companies into ugly tanks of a motorcycle.
there show is lame as hell and I cant believe people like the show,  they are an embarrassment to the motorcycle community IMO.

Billy Lane, Jesse James, Roland Sands, Indian Larry, etc are REAL fabricators and bike builders.

it got really repetitive.  They don't 'build' bikes.  They just assemble them.  It's always the same damn bike with different crap hung off of it.

It was okay for the first season, then it started repeating.

Biker Build-Off was a muuuuuch better show.

Seems like drama to me. But, I've sided with jr for the most part. At this point, he deserves the rights of a co-owner. His designs and products are what drove the company to the level it is now. Sr. doesn't respect him or is jealous of the attention he gets. It seems like he gets his kicks from spending his days trying to tear jr. down.

They both need to grow up and just do their jobs. IMHO

Turned it on for the first time in a long while the other night .   Paul Sr. fired junior .    Junior was talking to someone on the phone about starting his own business .     I see this as a way to jump start a tired story line .

I quit watching when Vinnie and Cody left to start their own shop, at first the show was prettty cool but they got greedy and got caught up in the "were the shit" mentality, The show has steadily gone downhill after the first episode.

Someone tolld me that Vinnie and Cody's shop is making some serious bucks and I believe it because they are serious builders that respect a truly quality product and can treat a customer with respect.

As usual YMMV

I rarely watch it anymore. Their stupid theme/commerical bikes are a joke. The TV show is probably the only lifeline keeping them afloat in this economy. I bet Vinnie is glad he's done with AC.

He also has no clue about working on motorcycles.

I watched him sit there for 5 minutes hitting a final drive pulley nut with an impact gun. (They are reverse threads.)

When it wouldn't break free, he had one of his guys grab a torch and proceed to heat up the nut. There is an oil seal inside the main drive gear that seals the gear to the mainshaft, exactly where he was applying the flame. The seal had to have melted.

I was actually at the new OCC shop today for a car show there. The shop is amazing. They are selling ducati bikes there now too.

All of the bikes they built on the show were still at the shop and out on display.

I was present when he fell, had spoken briefly with him about 2 hours earlier. He was a genuine cool dude from what I could tell on this first and unfortunately last encounters I shared with him. He looked me right in the eyes when he shook my hand, talked to me like a regular fella. Ride on Larry

Met Roland at a Road race event way back before he was building his own bikes. He was really young but seemed mature for his age, another cool guy to talk with. I really dig his style in bikes and he rips the tracks up with them.

I run a shop (not choppers or even much fabricating) so I watch the show a lot as it's interesting to see how they operate business-wise.  Senior definitely seems like a prick, but it's so heavily edited it's probably impossible to really know the guy just from the show.  You've got to hand it to him though; he works hard, has a history of being a businessman and with a little luck he has made himself and his family rich beyond anything they'd ever thought possible 10 years ago.  Personally, I think the most telling thing about Senior's personality is how cold he seems toward a lot of the customer's when they go to visit their facilty to get ideas for the bike.  During the greetings he often doesn't make eye contact and seems very distant; not warm and friendly like you'd expect someone who just made a deal for well over $100k for a bike.

I'd love to see what kind of contracts they have with the customers who they do builds for.  Some bikes are built in half a show and some take 2 full episodes.  I'm sure that's worked into the price.  Often the swapping of goods and services is part of the deal to which would make things more complex.  I doubt Craftsman just gave them all those tools without working that into the deal somehow.  Senior seems to be striking side deals left and right.  Notice all the shop trucks are Toyotas all of the sudden... I'm sure they got some kind of hook up on them in exchange for them appearing in the shows.

The latest episodes do show the most setup scenes yet.  The dialog between Junior and his girlfriend look so fake that I can't imagine that they are reading a script.  The scene with Senior coming in late and wrenching on the bike was ridiculous too.  With everything he is responsible for there is no way in fuck that he'd waste a late night working on a bike.

I still really enjoy it and it's surprising the things you can learn from the show if you read between the lines.

I liked the first season too, but after that, the bullshit between Jr. & Sr. got real old, real fast. Vinnie and Cody were my two favorite guys to watch on the series. I think the best show was when Sr. helped Cody build the old school bike and then, at the end of the build, Sr. gave Cody the bike.....I thought that was pretty cool.....

Senior has a tough position to be in.  He's the boss and his son is an employee.  Should he cut him some slack because he's family?  I know of too many companies that have people that are familied into positions.  Maybe he's lacks people skills, but apparently he's doing something right to gain the attention he has.  Not to mention the money that came from that attention.
