I started a new job with the city and yesterday had to go through the orientation. We had the harrassment section and one of the topics discussed was workplace harrassment. I asked about the cases where one or two minorites/immigrants were offended by someone with an American Flag on their desk and their fight to have it removed. The instructor looked at me like I had two heads and said "I have never heard of a case like that" So, does anyone have a link to a news story like that? Thanks |

Two Arab/Black members of the Miami-Dade Fire Department complained about the flags that were hung off the back of all MDFD trucks immediately after 9/11. It was about a week after. All hell broke loose. They refused to drive their trucks, which they considered to be flying the "flag of their oppression". Needless to say, their brother firefighters were NOT amused. At first, the MDFD ordered the flags removed, but then, as I said, all hell broke lose. The flags stayed, and for quite some time, although you don't see them as much as before. In fact, I can't remember the last time I saw one. Nowadays they mostly have a large sticker of some sort. I would recommend searching through the Miami Herald website. They carried the whole sordid tale. I remember when I first heard the story. It was then (and immediately afterwards when the WTC was getting sued) that I knew our once glorious nation was going to slide right back into the liberal cesspit it briefly crawled out of in the aftermath of 9/11. |

In the Senate chamber of State Capitol in Madison, Wisconsin - there is a rule that Senators may not decorate their desks with anything. There's only one Senator that has the balls to flaunt this rule. He's a former Marine and a Vietnam Veteran and his name is Dave Zien. He's got two flags - Old Glory and the Gadsden ("Don't Tread On Me") prominately displayed at all times. I'm sure he's been told more than once to take them down. |
