President Trump’s shift to a friendlier stance on China mirrors a startling change in public opinion. Across the political spectrum, more Americans are seeing China in a positive light. Surveys from leading pollsters, including two released this week, show that China’s image in the United States has improved markedly in recent years. So, China has been really unfair to us, right? And that's why we are putting high tariffs on them, to make it more fair. We increase the tariff to 145%! That's damn serious. Chinese need to get with the program and get the trade deficit under control. And then what happens? Tariffs put in on April '25, then paused on May 12th...then paused again August...then paused against in November '25 (for a year). And here is some more "fake news" - Bessent just announced that tariffs on China have been paused for another 2 months. So according to my math, we had higher tariffs against China for about a month. And they have been paused for 15 months. And this is how we are fighting China to get fair trading terms. This is how we've shown to China how serious we are about restoring balance of trade with them. Let me propose a different theory of what's going on. Chinese understood that we're too fucking scared to actually do anything, and all they need to do is make pretty mouth noises and run out the clock. |
