So I typically keep all my ammo in the safe.

The safe doth runnith over so to speak nowadays.  Should I transition my ammo out of the safe?   How does ARF.COM store their excess?

I am not a ARF pro, I only have a half dozen rifles and about 6k ammo.

Mine is all stored in ammo 50 cal ammo boxes, and I can tell you my wife is getting damn tired of having to step over them!

In ammo cans on shelves, both loose and in mags. Zero reason to overthink this.

I moved most of my ammo out of the safe and into ammo cans just a few weeks ago.

Easier to grab an go now too.

In ammo cans that are then placed in a job box and locked.

I use these instead of the 50 cal cans.  They stack easier, hold more, still airtight, and slide nicely under the bed or in a corner.

.50 cal cans

it's full. I have 8 or 10 cans in a closet.

I have a cheaper safe that is filled with 30 and 50 cal cans of ammo.  Each labelled with desiccant packs inside for long term storage.   Sorted by caliber, age, and alphabetical manufacturer and lot #.  Opps gotta go need my adderall

I have cases of magazines, and it is still not enough to hold all of the ammo I have!

Stacked 50 cal cans with some 6x6s under them to get them up off the concrete floor. When I can find it, I get sealed spam cans of ammo for very long term backup ammo.

I've got five sets of industrial shelves in the basement and garage basically filled with cases, crates and 30 and 50 cal cans, and some more spillover into closets and stacked into a corner of the garage. Keeping ammo in the safes has never even been a possibility.

Keeping your ammo in the safe, even if it fits, is probably not the best use of safe space - anyplace cool, dark and dry is fine.

Every time I open a bottle of pills, I take the moisture absorbing desiccant and put it in a can.

Most of it is stored loose in ammo cans. Everything else is stored how it came in ammo cans (on clips,  in bandoleers, in boxes,  etc)

I keep the guns in a Liberty safe and the ammo in a lockable stack-on locker.  Mainly because I am cheap, and don't want to buy a whole other safe just for ammo.  The only ammo I keep in the safe are in loaded mags.

This way I don't have to push 50 boxes of ammo out of the way if I need to grab something in a rush.

I posted a pic in the magazine thread a few months ago.  I will see if I can dig it up again.

This may be a dumb question....

If I keep my ammo, in cans, in a basement. Can the summer humidity ruin the ammo?
I've never noticed any damage or anything but I know GD be smarterer than me sometimes

Just store them properly and they will be fine, little pack of rechargeable dry packs and put them in a dry place they will be fine.

As long as it is in cans that seal, nothing can really get to the ammo in the cans.

Once you achieve total coverage she can simply walk atop them.

This.  In a gorilla rack in the garage.  Guns in the 2 safes.

I actually use my old outgrown stack-on safe.   The 9 gun stand up green ones that are like 100 bucks.  Collection out grew it years ago, but with some wood, metal shelf stands, a drill, some screws, and some felt, you can make a very nice, lockable ammo safe.

However you store them, make sure to keep the lot numbers with the ammo where possible for when a recall is issued or a lot of mil-surp becomes known to be bad.

50 cal cans.
12 cans for $140 grade 2 stay away form grade 3 they are mostly junk.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B009UPKL2I/ref=dp_olp_used_mbc?ie=UTF8&condition=used

I ordered them form AmmoCanMan last year and all of them were in good usable condition.
They used to be $119 for 12 grade 2 cans so they only went up $20.

Most of my stuff is in 50 cal cans (handgun ammo is sometimes in 30 cal cans) I just assumed the recommendation would be to have them stored in a cabinet or small room with low humidity and lock.

I really haven't used much in the way of desiccant but maybe I need to.

The guns and "right now" ammo are in the AMSEC BF7240.  Ammo fort, when not being an actual fort, is in an old Circuit City TL30 safe.  The cached ammo is cached in a cache elsewhere.
