Much better base and the ability to actually clamp the blade in place and rotate it should produce better results. Does looks like it takes the same stones though.

Specifically...it's an Edge Pro that actually works worth a damn.  Or a Wicked Edge that you don't have to suction cup to a marble base.....AND IT NEEDS HALF THE STONES.  That, in and of itself, IS earth shattering.

The ONLY thing I don't "like" per se, is that it comes with stones instead of diamond hones.  Diamond is just sooooo much easier to work with.

Stones wont sharpen modern steels well.

They are harder than the noviculite in those stones.

Go diamond or CBN or go home

All of my beveled blades get diamond and sapphire.  My convex blades I do with a oak and leather block and automotive grade papers, free hand.  I tested a Ken Onion Worksharp for one of my buddies who could not for the life of him get it to work.  There was a good reason....it's a complete piece of shit.

I sharpen on diamonds stones.

The papers you use are SiC also much harder than stones.

This. The EdgePro is infinitely superior to freehand but it has its drawbacks. This system appears to address the bulk of my grumbles with the EdgePro. I'll have to give the video another look when I am in a position to watch the whole thing.

Ever since I got my ken onion worksharp I've lost interest in other sharping systems

Edit

In the time he unboxed that and had it put together I could have sharpened every knife in my kitchen with my worksharp

The problems with this system are:
1. No aftermarket support,  you better like stones of questionable quality because that's all that's available. No diamonds, CBN or strop.
2. Sending money to the enemy of humanity, russia

The clamping mechanism is adjustable. If those stones aren't essentially the same as the ones that come with the EdgePro then I would be very surprised if they weren't interchangeable.

You can buy a Chinese knockoff for under $20 on Aliexpress. I have had an Edgepro for a long time. If you get a sharpener like that, Ken Schwartz sells Atoma diamond plates mounted for the Edgepro at Ken's Corner on Chefknivestogo. I'm not a big fan of flattening stones.

Won't work with recurved blades or convex edges, but otherwise appears to be a nicely engineered, well built unit meant for someone who needs to sharpen a LOT of knives.

True, but those Norton IM313's aren't inexpensive at around $200. I have one, I love the size of the stones, great for larger blades.

I was only able to watch about half of the video due to video/Youtube issues.  This looks like a beautifully designed knife sharpening system.  For many years I used a Lansky type system made by someone else and had a flexible, vertical support stand that limited the consistency of the grinding angle.  After recently investigating many sharpeners I decided on the KME.  Man, my knives are FAR sharper now than they have even been in the past, wickedly sharp, and the whole kit is contained in a small, portable case.  Easy to use, store and transport.  The only limitation is the maximum blade size I can sharpen, which is ~ a 8" x2" kitchen knife.

This is only the case with Arkansas stones and steels pumped full of vanadium. Almost any other stone type (Japanese water stones, synthetic Norton, Ceramic, etc) will easily cut into even the most vanadium laden designer steel.

I question the usefulness of such designer powdered steels, but it seems a lot of people like them. If you are one of those people, as long as you don't buy an Arkansas stone, you'll be fine.

I have to agree, I don't get why casual users worry about high wear resistance. It makes the knife more difficult to sharpen and doesn't really add any value to a casual use knife.

Crusty Old Fart Opinion Ahead-I'd be perfectly happy if all of my knives were made from plain old 5160. It's tough as hell, it takes a good edge easily and holds it a good long while. It will rust unless cared for, of course...not a problem for me.

I agree with this. Many people get stuck on the internet looking for the best steels available, when in all honestly something like 440C, 12c27, AUS 8, or even a simple carbon steel would suit their needs just fine.

OP video subject is pretty damn cool. There's a link in on the YouTube page for the whole kit. Looks like just over $200 to start, with more components bringing the price up.

I have a Lansky, and it works fine for my EDC. It doesn't work well for the 'dagger' profile Boker Kalashnikov automatic knife I have, though. Oh well, I never carry that one anyway.

It is if you are a popular YouTuber, and someone gives you one for the marketing.

Not that Cody would push anything he doesn't believe in, it's just not Earth shattering.  If they were able to deliver it at a cheaper price, that would be Earth shattering.  But the price is still fairly high.
