DU Trolls aside, have you noticed that the people here that get the sandiest manginas over issues such as the rape thread are those that, even though they profess to love the site, are sucking off the ARFcom teat without bothering to pony up for a team membership? Just my two cents. Actual value may very depending on whether you give a damn or not. |
I think you're looking for a positive correlation where there is none. |

A lot of the members who have some time under their belt here have been paying members at one time or another even if they aren't now. They've donated to the site, do their opinions count? If I've had 3 paid memberships but I'm in my 4th year now and didn't renew IMO my views count just as much as some newb in his first year's paid membership - actually more since my financial investment has been greater. But really, in the grand scheme of things, the only opinions that count for jack shit around here are the owners' and we should all remember that. |
While they pass their judgments upon those who do cough up so they can surf here free? Yeah, I have noticed that. |

Honestly, paying member or not, I look at the content of the post. Now certainly if I see an avatar I know and know them to be on spot most of the time, I might pay attention. If someone says something I think is fucking stupid, I don't really think about if they are a paying member or not. Besides we talk shit about ALL of y'all in the lifers only forum.....

I have to admit that I don't notice whether a person is a team member or not, Their opinion means the same either way. Some of the best contributors here are not team members(some never were, some just decided to let their membership lapse). I tend to notice post count and join date. It's no surprise when some of the most asshat stuff comes from a guy who joined in Feb 08. Even more important is just knowing who's not full of it and trusting in what they say. I know that when Lumpy196, dfariswheel, FLAL1A, or DK-Prof post something, that it's probably worth reading. I at least know it's not trollish bullshit. There are many others in the same vein, but I just chose to pick on those guys. |
We approve about 100 new accounts every single day. Most of the membership access the site with free user accounts. And I've seen plenty of vile commentary from users sporting an avatar. $24 doesn't change one's personality. Although Team Members may become a bit more reserved when they realize that $24, $60 or $100 may be forfeited by ignoring the Conduct Code. |
sniff, sniff I need pie |

My observation on most of these matters is that alot of these people who start this crap have had a recent trolling history in other threads too, not to mention a low post count. I think most of these people are just trying to rock the boat and push the limits.. Luckily they'll end up pissing a mod off and get perma-banned |
Why bother paying for a membership? Even if you paid the membership, whatever you would try to contribute would be met with someone who has a higher post count and would say that your opinion/help/suggestion/banter doesn't matter.![]() I'm just lazy. I'll get around to it yet. |

1. The non-members also spend lots of money at the advertiser's web sites. So to say they are not contributing is a lie. If we did not have them, we may not have any advertisements on the site. We owe many of them a debt of gratitude for making this site a favorable place to do business. 2. There are more of them than there are of us. 3. The way to get them to become a paying member is to make them feel welcome and part of the hive. But we can do without the DUers, IMO. 4. We all used to be one of "them". 5. If the site is offering free participation, than they are not leaching. Don't offer what you don't want people to use. You sound like an employer who offers vacation days, but doesn't allow employees to use it. Again, don't offer what you don't want people to use. |
That's because you only have 7577 posts
