Sweet, USB/Wireless Hotspot built in without rooting. I use PDANet for USB tethering, but never took the "Rooting" Plunge on my Moto Droid to get wireless tethering.

Droid can has 2.2 via OTA update?

EDIT –– if not now, can has in future?

Nice!   I'm looking forward to the speed improvments of Froyo.  Hopefully battery life will be positively impacted, although my Droid runs just fine for me as far as battery life.

But knowing Motorola, they'll lollygag around forever before it's released for the Droid.

I would really consider switching to a nexus one, but I don't know if I can live without the keyboard of the G1.  I've tried using the android on-screen keyboard for "practice", but I just can't get used to it.

I pick up my HTC EVO 4G on the 4th.  I wonder how long until they go from 2.1 to 2.2.  The biggest change that I like in the 2.2 release is a native Exchange support for corp. email.

I am just the opposite now.  Previous phones where blackberrys and moto Qs.  So i got used to the keyboard.  Switched to iPhone and love the touchscreen.  Fiancee has a moto droid.  I wont used the keyboard, just the touchscreen.  It responds very well for me, and i have bear paws for hands.

For those interested in all of the features Froyo has to offer, you can catch the official unveiling and demos at this last week's Google I/O conference.

My understanding is that 2.2 will roll out for the Droid sometime in June.

What are the differences between the Nexus One and the Incredible?

Only thing I can find is that they are for different carriers....

I am in the market for a droid type phone and I am currently a verizon customer.

I am not much of a texter,  but I want to have good browsing capability.

What do I need to get.....?

So supposedly I can get this an the AT&T network now... for $529.

I am in the market for a new phone... but I think I'll wait for the end of summer and hope the price comes down a bit.

I want a google phone and I want it on AT&T... this limits my options somewhat.

I own both. The iphone is provided through work, and I purchased an HTC Incredible for my personal phone. The Droid wins...hands down. Sorry to go off-topic...had to throw my preemptive strike in there.

Later this year.

“This includes popular models like the Desire and Droid Incredible as
well as hotly anticipated phones like the Evo 4G, MyTouch slide and
upcoming models. We will announce a full list of phones and dates once
we are closer to launching the upgrades. We are working closely with
Google and our other partners to ensure we have the earliest access to
everything we need to provide a complete and solid Sense experience on
Froyo. We expect to release all updates in the second half of this year
but can’t be more specific yet.”

I wish AT&T weren't such tools and gave us the option of a real droid phone. Right now, the only choice is the neutered Motorola backfip, or $529 for a nexus one.

Between the Hero and the iPhone, the iPhone stomp a mudhole in the android.

This is the problem with android.   THere are a zillion phones out there that all need their own updates and it takes frikken forever to get them all updated.  It looks like I.ll be going 2.1 when everyone else goes 2.2.  25% of android users are still on 1.6 or 1.5 respectively.

Not on the G1, it won't.  Unfortunately, the G1 doesn't have the hardware capability to run 2.1 or 2.2, which is why they haven't been upgraded.  There are unofficial ROMs out there that incorporate some of the features of 2.1 for the G1, though.
