Quoted:
I take it you never figured out he was a liberal from his tv shows? Or that you have to be in a liberal union to have speaking roles on television and in movies? ![]() Yeah he was the sheriff without a gun and all that, but he always grabbed one when he needed it. I didnt know that about unions in television. |

On the Andy Griffith show, Andy was the symbol of adulthood and the other characters represented the neurotic state that people enter when they refuse to become adults.
If you think about it, Andy and Barney were virtually polar opposites. Andy was always forced to resolve the problems that occurred due to the neurotic state of the other characters, but he always had to do it in a way that preserved their fragile egos. That is a common theme in fiction, the battle between adulthood and the living death state of neurosis. Nowadays the neurotic state is encouraged. People are encouraged to pamper themselves and live out a childhood in adulthood. All things are permitted, every weakness is instantly excused. The result? A nation of miserable prozac eaters shopping for more and more "stuff". |
