What exactly is the Royal families status on a political level.

i vaguely remeber from school that the queen had some minor roles but was mostly ceremonial. Is the royal family maintained in there extreame wealth out of tradition or is there something more?

I was stationed north of London for a few years-and from what I gathered, the Royal Family was mostly ceremonial. Now, the British absolutely love the traditional pomp and circumstance that the Royalty represent. But they (royal family) don't make or decree laws. Obviously they have a prime minister, and house of commons etc; that basically function like our equvalents in congress and the senate.. British people that I knew would agree that the royal family served no real purpose, but at the same time would be very hesitant in ending that tradition. As much as people might try to equate the Kennedy's or even the Bush's to American royalty, there isn't a comparison here. I inow this doesn't exactly answer your question, but it's a start.

We got royalty over here in the Colonies. Ain't Babe Ruth known as the Sultan of Swat?

The proper term is: "titular head of state".

Window dressing.

They have as much authority as Donald Trump does here.

They are a Constitutional (ha!) Monarchy.
