I have been considering buying a digital camera over the past few weeks.  I think I have narrowed it to two fujifilm models that I have played with in the stores. I like the ergonomics of the units, and the placement of the buttons.  Both fall into the "prosumer" catagory.  There is about a $100-$150 difference in price depending on where I buy it.  (found them on line the cheapest so far at IbuyDigital.com if anyone has a opinion about the merchant.) This will be my first digital camera. I am an old 35mm SLR person (mainly doing B&W stuff) and  want to supplement my 35mm stuff. I am by no means a professional photographer, but I like to play with the pictures.

The cross road I am at is this, one unit is 6.3MP w/6x optical zoom and supposed to have a better CCD thingy. The other is a 4.0MP with a 10x optical zoom with a "standard" CCD.  I'm trying not to get hung up on the mega-pixel thing as the only determining factor, and I have read several reviews of both camera's at various websites. Just wanted to get the ARFCOM sea of knowledge input.

the two camera's are:

FujiFilm S7000

Fujifilm S5100

The S5100 was the first one I looked at, until a salesperson showed me the 7000 for about $100 more.

Thank you in advance guys.

All other things being equal (or nearly so), the camera with the better OPTICAL zoom (digital zoom, in most cases, degrades resolution) would be a better and more useful choice, IMHO. If it were me, I'd stick with your original choice.

Besides, how often are you going to actually need a 6MP picture? Sure, the pictures will have fabulous detail, but the file size will be huge.

Btw, before you buy it at a retail store, take a look at Newegg.com to see if they have it, and I bet you'll save a fair amount of money.
