So how do you write equations, specifically notations used for division and multiplication?

Do you use × or · for multiplication?

Do you use ÷ or / for division?

For what specifically?

Computers generally use * and /

If you are writing on paper use · and / or ÷

Equivalency. Learn it, live it, love it.

I usually use the multiplication sign for multiplication, and the dot for dot product.

I usually use the solidus for division when typing, but that's only because it's more convenient inline than using the vinculum. I rarely use the obelus, but that's just my preference. My strongest preference is for the vinculum, by far.

ETA: ...and I use parentheses generously to avoid ambiguity.

It depends, but usually I use a lot of parenthesis and brackets.  And fractions, especially if I need to include units so I can figure out conversions as I go.

I just put them next to each other for multiplication.
