Are there any experts on antique clocks out there? I got one passed down to me from a great uncle. Apparently it's been in the family awhile, but no one can tell me how long or anything about it, really.

"Ansonia Clock Co.      Eight Day Weight & Spring Mantel Clock"

Beyond that, I have no clue.

don't do anything with it until you know more (wind, clean, etc..)

there might be some info here: http://www.collectorsweekly.com/clocks/ansonia

I haven't done anything with it, yet. I've looked at several websites (that one included), but didn't get much useful info.
I was really hoping to stumble upon an expert here.
Seems that there are some people on here with some very specialized knowledge!

Does it have the visible Escapement?  (the tick tock wheel visible in front of the dial near the 12 o clock position)??

Those are fairly desirable, but not usually worth more than $500 in pristine condition.   Still if you can get it working, especially the "gong" you will find its well worth it!

It has a "decorative" hole approx. 2.5' wide directly in the center that shows some of the works (appear to be brass?).
I was told that it works fine... gong and everything. My great uncle wound it every few days and kept it going all these years. I remember that darn chime in his house from when I was a kid.

I've got pics, but I don't know how to post them here... Duuuuuhhhhhh!
