gigabit internet access
Plug your LAN cable into Expedient’s innovative all-Ethernet network and you’re up and running at speeds of up to one billion bits of data per second, or one gigabit. That’s over 2,500 times faster than DSL; 600 times faster than a T1.

|
Side Note:
That speed is with the $10 extra per month for Comcast's "Power Boost".
I have a package deal going on, so I'm not sure what I pay for the cable internet alone. I do know that, between the cable and their "Power Boost", I've got the fastest Internets they offer. DSL is a no-go at my primary residence, as the telephone lines at Casa De Evil are archaic, worthless and God hates them. |

You have accrued too many internets. The weight is slowing them down. You need to start giving some of your internets away to people who you believe have earned them. Stop hoarding the internets. _MaH YOU WILL NOT REDISTRIBUTE MY INTERNETZ! *blades @ 45* Quoted:
Wax your modem after filling it with at least 93 octane megabits. Does Magpul sell Internets or the modem wax in question? |

It's supposed to have a 1x7 ethernet twist rate, a folding ethernet cable, and be priced in a range that most of us can afford. I'm saving my pennies! |

Quoted: Quoted: What do you want to do that 10Mbps is insufficient? I doubt that any hardware change on your part will help. Either the cable co. will listen to your complaint and fix it, or you are SOL. DOS a DOD satellite? ![]() Less lag while gaming? The ping time is probably not going to change - and 58ms is a pretty slow ping time. Find the IP of the speed test site and do a traceroute. You must be going through a shit ton of routers to get that kind of ping time. |

I'm currently running a Netgear N300 Model WNR2000 on a Comcast-supplied RCA Model DCM245 cable modem. http://www.speedtest.net/result/938319544.png Both of the little ones are streaming off of two different Xbox/Netflix setups right now, but the specs shown in the test are pretty typical for me, although my ping is generally in the low 40s. Upgrade my cable modem, or will it even matter? Caching proxy server running on your computer. Set their computers to use it as a proxy. If you would normally end up downloading a lot of the same files from multiple computers, it'll save bandwidth and increase spead. You'll have a local copy stored on one of your computers that the other computers will use rather than downloading the files themselves over the internet. http://www.squid-cache.org/ |

I've heard upgrading to a DOCSIS 3.0 modem may increase your speeds, newegg sells them I've thought about trying it but I'm probably just going to upgrade to the 101mbs down package from my provider and get the modem from them. Getting a DOCSIS 3.0 modem will only improve speed if you subscribe to a DOCSIS 3.0 speed tier package. Whether you're running a DOCSIS 2.0 or 3.0 modem, if you buy it yourself I recommend Motorola SurfBoards. I've found them to be the most reliable. The speeds you see on a cable modem depend on a number of factors: 1. How many people are on your node. I.e., how many other people share the last leg of the connection from you to the head end. 2. What router you're using. Some low end routers will be a bottleneck. If you have DOCSIS 3.0 service get a router with Gig-E ports. At speed tiers over 50 Mbps down, 100 Mbps Ethernet ports will be a bottleneck, and 802.11n for WiFi. 802.11g WiFi gives about 24 Mbps real-world throughput. 3. What other people are doing on your home LAN (if applicable). 4. Your PC. E.g., you won't see good speeds on a PC that's infested with crapware, malware, has a slow CPU or inadequate RAM. |

Quoted: Quoted: 58ms really isn't that bad. The alternative is that I'm losing my edge in FPS gaming...and that can't be it. I like the options thus far. Sprinkling cocaine into the air vents of my router and modem sounds like a viable option. I've played competitive FPS on the PC for 10 years or so. 58ms is damned fine ping. Getting above 90ms is going to be very noticeable. You're just losing your edge. |
