Anybody ever been here? It's changed a bit in the last 40 years....but if you were ever there you'll remember.

I was driving by today and had to stop and see what was left. This was the Dempsey Army Heli-Port near Palo Pinto, TX. It was used by the Army until 1977 for Primary Helicopter Flight Training out of Fort Wolters at Mineral Wells, Texas. The area also had tons of 'stagefeilds' all over.

The heliport contained parking spaces for 476 helicopters together with a 65,000 sq. feet maintenance hanger, 39 briefing rooms, a fire station, a self-contained sewage disposal plant, administrative offices and a control tower.

Between 1957 & 1977 the US Army ran about 40,000 student pilots through Ft Wolters.

This was Dempsey AHP back in 1970.....

In 1977 the Army moved Pri-Fly to Ft Rucker, AL where it remains today. Just a bit of 'ancient history'.
