Got a wood stove or fireplace?  Put it on top of the hot coals and leave it there overnight.

It is almost like high temperatures no longer kill bacteria.. Carbon is flavor as far as I am concerned.

Might I suggest a stronger prescription?

This is why iron skillets suck and you should just use non stick pans for easy cleanup.

Enjoy the teflon flakes in your breakfast.

Cast iron is not hard. No scalding, no soap, no scraping. Clean up a warm pan with warm water and a brush. That is it.

Keep it hot enough to boil water, use this on the end of a metal spatula. Wipe dry, place a little bacon grease and put up...

Heresy.  You don't use soap on cast iron.

Detergent (I.e. Dawn) will not hurt your seasoning in the slightest.

I personally think that depends on temperature.

If you use soap while the cast iron is hot, some soap might get trapped in the pores, and may affect the flavor when you next cook with it.

A quick boil of some water after using soap, followed by a normal wipedown of whatever you use for seasoning, should eliminate that.

No personal experience with this, just what I once heard.

Exactly. It’s an old wives tale from back in the day when they used lye based soaps, which certainly will ruin cast iron seasoning.

But who the fuck uses lye based soap now days?

You wash a southern woman's cast iron with soap, lye will be the least of your worries.  Just don't do that.   Simple scrape or scrub brush with no soap will be just fine.

T-Zine, I felt that I should advise you that I plan to only reply to your trolling from here on out with one of the stock emojis. Please call me out if I fail to do that. This is for my own good.

I think cast iron threads have more fucking derp than any other threads.

Hint: cooking with and cleaning cast iron isn’t voodoo.

I jist recently started experimenting with cast iron, and am sad to think of how much scrubbing I've had to do on my stainless steel pans over the last 20 years.

Cast iron is awesome!
