The fall of Saigon? I'm sure some French stayed. I know that during the war with the US, the French gov't had a diplomatic relationship with the North. I assume that a few French chose to stay in Vietnam.

And the answer is still yes.

The US gov't paid the French plantation owners some horrendous price for each rubber tree that was damaged.
