Thinking about using it. I can't think of a reason I shouldn't.
Any security concerns with it? If my Macbook is stolen, can my mail be read if the hard drive is taken out? Or is the mail encrypted? I am not using FileVault.

Yes... The emails are stored as plaintext files. Use FileVault if you want them encrypted.
ETA - FileVault is required on my work Macbook. I have not seen any performance issue because of it.

If you use PGP with your mail you'll have to try and find a new plugin since Yosemite broke my current GPG plug in.

Yosemite also has remote wipe features from the Find My Mac/Phone app.

AppleMail works great, def encrypt your drive and back up that code if you have critical data on your machine
