My washing machine is not draining. The timer runs, but at the points where it is supposed to drain, nothing happens. It is a "Sears Kenmore Heavy Duty" and is probably around 25 years old.

Any ideas?

I would guess that since it is a home machine that it has a pump and not just a drain.  My suggestion would be to look at the pump and start from there.
If it were a Huebsch or Speed Queen or even a Unimac I could help you a lot since that is what I do for a living.  But since it isn't I can just speak in generalities.

I had the same problem with mine a few years ago, and someone here helped me out. (DrFridge IIRC)     On mine there was a pump and a solenoid.  All that was required was to clean out the lint.   Have a couple buckets handy when you split the pump case though.   You will have a tsunami on your hands.  Or you could siphon it before hand and avoid all unnecessary drama.
