I applied with a university police department.  I am really praying for this job as I really want to purchase a house.  Anybody else work for university departments that can give any advice?

No, but get ready for even pansier politics.

Every day I pick up the campus wipe and turn to the blotter.......

Sounds exciting, in a "WTF?" and "AGNTSA" sorta way.

Some of the guys at the local campus here are great.

Both of my bosses are from that campus, one elected and the other brought with him.

The couple people I know at another college around here have it way better than any other department I have heard of.  Like everything else one or two people can make the difference.

In years past, our University PD seemed to have a revolving door of officers (high churn rate).

They'd seem to have one "gun guy" at all times..... who invariably wouldn't last long (usu. 6-18mos).

I'd see him at the range, he'd see me, and we'd run into one another on campus (or vice-versa).

Seems to be less of that now with the new Chief.  I also haven't met the "gun guy" on this iteration of the force yet.

Disclaimer: All of the above is one-hundred percent anecdotal.

There are three campus police agnecies in my city.  The campus cops that hate their job the most are the Rutgers guys.  The ultra liberal administrators cater to the "no it all" students.  High turn over rate. At one time, half the rutgers force quit.   My fellow officers treat the students a little differently.  They try to get the female students in bed.

Rocksarge: go for and good luck.

I had my interview on Wednesday.  It went well and I am waiting to hear back.
