We are definitely, on the whole, an affluent, decadent, and sedentary society. But our food industry also works against us in many ways. Advertising, ingredients, etc. It's not an easy fix. 172 lbs on the hoof is a sobering average. |

| The article doesn't say what OP says it says. The average height of women is 5' 3.75", and the average weight of women is 171.8 pounds. That does not translate to "the average woman is 5'3" and 171.8#." I'm guessing that the weight numbers are skewed higher by taller women who are incredibly obese, with the height kept lower by immigration. |

My theory…. It’s because… 1. They work at a 8-5 job, sitting on their butts, munching crap all day. 2. The stay at home, watching TV, on their butts, munching crap all day. 3. They don’t do housework, yard work, they have their nails & hair done, hire someone to come and do the work, they should be doing. My hereditary had major obesity. I refused to accept it. I rarely sit still, I always need to be doing something. That’s MHO. |

I believe it. I was at a busy restaurant for dinner last week out of town by myself. Looking around the restaurant, I don't think there was a single woman or girl under 150lbs in the place. My dad just came back from a river cruise in France. He said one of the things that stood out to him was how the local women were nice looking and none of them were fat like so many are here. |

Utahns are pretty skinny, Mormons especially (at least where I live). There are still tattooed day glo haired fatties around. There's A lot less alcohol in Utah. The LDS frown on it. There aren't many bars, liquor is sold at state stores. But damn they still drink tons of soda, dirty sodas and eat a lot of ice cream. |
