My wife has a subchorionic hemorrhage. Can you explain to me what's going on and if there is anything we can do about it?
Thank you, AD |

Subchorionic haemorrhage (SCH) occurs when there is perigestational haemorrhage and blood collects between the uterine wall and the chorionic membrane in pregnancy. It is a frequent cause of first and second trimester bleeding.
Nothing you can really do about it. Just don't put additional stressors on her. Good luck! Doc |

How far along is your wife? As noted above, these are common causes of bleeding in pregnancy. They are very commonly seen, sometimes coincidentally, on first trimester ultrasounds. Much of the time, they aren't a big deal and the pregnancy progresses without issue. If they're quite large, it's concerning for a possible miscarriage. My wife had one of these with her second pregnancy. Bled and spotted off and on through most of the pregnancy. It about drove her crazy, but it turned out fine. Child #2 is now a healthy, 14 year old boy. Not much you can do about them, other than have your wife avoid a lot of heavy lifting and straining. Good luck. |

Quoted: She's 12 weeks. The flow of blood was pretty heavy(soaking through a regular pad). That's a tough situation. At 12 weeks, they can definitely see the baby's heartbeat and monitor growth. (Actually, you can see cardiac activity around 6 weeks.) Often, the bleeding will slow down and stop. But it is concerning if it involves a large amount of the surface area between the placenta and the uterus. I'm sure her OB is keeping a close eye on her and will likely do more ultrasounds and testing. Otherwise, there's not a lot to be done right now. Crappy answer, I know. For now, it's a waiting game. Sending prayers for your wife and you. Hang tight. |
