Well our "supposedly" 50 ton Felling trailer is still broken, so I said fuck it. Get the CAT 988 and move the 850 John Deere dozer with it. I think the dozer is over 50,000 lbs with the wide pads and the ripper attached. No road rules on an airfield...lol!

We got flipped off daily and filmed by the locals as we were moving loads, the city police harassed us on day one as we were moving the oversized loads through town. Fortunately the WY Highway Patrol showed up and put a stop to it. We had some protestors show up the first day but the weather turned cold and shitty with a snow/rain mix the next two days which put a stop to the fair weather protestors but it turned the off load site into a muddy mess. No pictures as the situation was sensitive/volatile and the contractor requested that we not take pictures. |

Loaded this LR 1600 crane house (126,000 lb) on my Highway Max in Seibert, CO on Friday (240,000 GVW) I'm now stuck in Haskell, TX, got here Saturday afternoon, the crane that is supposed to offload me is stuck in Colorado and the road going to the wind tower is way too muddy for me to get into even if the off load crane was here. I may be sitting for days, in Haskell, God help me.

Even if yours IS set up specifically for that kind of work. I basically run back and forth on the same 82 mile stretch of road each day, almost all of which is 70mph interstate. Once loaded and I hit 8th OD, that’s where she stays until I get to my exit. There’s a few hills where I could hit 8th direct, but it’s not necessary. Average mpg with this setup, including the empty miles and fuel used to run the blower for unloading, is 6.8 mpg. 12.7 Detroit 60, 13 speed, 3.55 rears. Usually humming along at 72-73 mph. She’s no big powerhouse, but she’s happy. I won’t trade her. 😁 Edit: Heaviest I’ve had this rig was 96,200 lbs. You could sure tell it was a little heavier, but it didn’t seem to mind. Probably good for it. |

I've gone down Eisenhower Pass on I-70 in Colorado at 150,000 lbs in 6th direct @ 35 mph and never had to touch the brakes, the engine brake and the big assed fan are enough to hold it back. There's trade offs though, I'm lucky to get over 7 mpg bobtailed, I can't go much faster than 70 mph. I was averaging about 3 mpg from Colorado to Texas at 240k. Even with 330 gallons of fuel on board the fuel gauge drops fast. |
