For the past 3-4 nights I have been up from 12a to about 3a or 4a with a tickle in the back of my throat causing me to have short coughing fits, I can feel mucus going down my throat and have a history of seasonal allergies and post nasal drip, it is a dry cough with no phlem, unless I have alot draining from my nose then I will have alittle from there. I have tried mucinex DM and claritin D to relieve these symptoms and nothing helps. I am fine all day, I only  have this cough at night time and not getting enough sleep is putting me on edge, is there anyway to stop this post nasal drip or get some relief? I'm planing on making a DR apt but I'm assuming he will just tell me to do what I have already tried.

Wife dealt with similar issues. Some were allergy related. Some were nasty sinus infections.

Doc should be able to help at least a little.

Don't let him prescribe the nasty/expensive antibiotics. (Zithromax, IIRC. bad bad bad). Regular penicillin worked fine.

My doc always gives me a Z-pak everytime I need an antibiotic, which is very rare, I don't think he's ever given me penicilin

doesn't sound like you need antibiotics.

could take something like Flonase and an antihistamine (Zyrtec) right before bed

you might also want to be checked for sleep apnea. Does your gf say you snore?

Not a doctor, but try to use saline flush. It comes in an a resolution type can with nasal spout.

Last few days same thing for me. I think it's from Turing on the furnace.. haven't put the humidifier on.

Are you just getting over a cold?  If so, the oropharynx is irritable afterwards creating that "tickle" that stimulates the cough and will be better in a few more days.  It could be post nasal drip that "tickles" your irritated oropharynx.  Alternatively, it could be the post nasal drip that irritates the oropharynx.  A seasonal change in environmental molds can cause a flareup of allergy symptoms.  Also, the dryer air of winter and winter heating can cause dry mucous membranes and thickening of secretions.

My suggestion is this:  cough medicine with decongestant to suppress the tickle cough while decreasing the post nasal drip.  A humidifier of some sort might help too.  If it is bothering you enough, you could see a doctor for a more effective cough suppressant containing codiene.  This will probably help you sleep too (as might the decongestant in OTC cough medicines).

Symptoms of many irksome things are always more apparent at night.

Last few days same thing for me. I think it's from Turing on the furnace.. haven't put the humidifier on. I think it may have to do with this it is VERY dry in my house all year, never above 45% in the summer and always below 35% in the winter (as low as high 20's) I'm going to try a humidifier tonight and pray it helps

Yes, I had a cold about a week ago now, unfortunately I'm allergic to codiene so that is out of the question.
