I see this guy everyday going to work, it gets moved around the lot each week to a different spot on the fence.

I take its a M113 with a TOW launcher.

This is a TN National Guard lot in Nashville.
- Do you think they keep live TOW's for this bad boy?
  - If so, what function does a National Guard unit train for other than deployment needs? (I know the 278th deployed while I was in college in Knoxville, and rolled out M1's and M2's) Do National Guard units train for say, defense of Nashville?

Always wondered what state of readiness a motorpool in the states has.

no tinfoil, just wondering as we got some Armour parked around town.

I was in TN last week and saw 5 different convoys on 65.

I thought it was a little odd.

It's a Hammerhead, can't recall the actual vehicle designation at the moment.

M901 Improved TOW Vehicle, or M981 FIST-V. Both  long out of service.

I see at least 2-3 bradleys being hauled on I-40 each week.

Hard to tell from the blurry photo, but most likely a M901.  The FIST-V I saw were on A3 chassis, which look a bit different than this type.

No, they don't keep TOW's in the turret.  They're kept under lock and padlock in some arms dump.  Or knowing the millitary, they don't have any actual missles for them, they just have it for looks.  Like when the goverment had the Guard and Reserve walking around airports, with an M16 with magazine.  Everything ready to roll, except any ammo.  But it looked like they were doing something, without the risk (and reduction in rank for some officer) if there was an actual shooting.

I know they don't keep them in the turret.

I was saying, if Alabama invaded would they be able to load up and go.

1. If Alabama were to invade, there aren't enough TOW's to stop them.

2. Bama, I think, has gotten over the Memphis fiasco and Phil is no longer at UT. So, I don't think they are going to invade anytime soon.

3. I only know for sure, that when that thing is running down the road/trail/lane it goes click-click-click-click-click in a most annoying fashion.

Opinions vary.  TOW gunner here. I'm  the only guy I know to have actually fired the TOW(off a Brad, not a truck).

Nice...I fired two off the Humvee and one from an ITV...The ITV was stable enough to almost be fire and forget at a stationary target...the Humvee was a whole different ballgame

I was a track mechanic in the Army and worked on M901 ITV's in the 1/61 Mechanized Inf, Ft. Polk La. in the mid 80's. I got to fire TOW missles from the track  and from the ground mount launcher when we were on the qualification ranges after all gunners were qualified. Pretty fun.
