| I am new to the forum so sorry if this is a stupid question. I am trying to get a few more guns before January (just in case - Obamanation). Based on the old assault weapon ban, what parts could you buy and sell? Were uppers, lowers, and parts still legal or did it ban everything? I am trying to decide if it is better just to buy a few receivers to have for now or build complete rifles one by one. I know a new AWB may be different but based on the old one can anyone give a few examples of what was legal? Thanks in advance. |

Taken from HR 6257
Why didn't they do this in 2004 after the other one set? 6257 just seems to mirror the Clinton ban with some minor changes. HR 1022 scares me much more. |

WIth the Heller amendment I doubt there will be any more bans, registration, and taxes perhaps. Here is the best advice I can give, if you are in a time cruch: 1.DON'T BUY ACCESSOIRIES UNLESS YOU CAN AFFORD THEM AND MORE GUNS. The lights and scopes will never be illegal to buy. 2. Define what you want and don't get distracted: A ww2 collection will not get banned, so there is no deadline. 3. Don't get carried away, chances are there will not be another ban now, so don't buy investment pieces, and don't buy stuff thinking it will be banned and more valuable later. 4. MOST IMPORTANT GO OUT AND SHOOT THE RIFLES........thats what there for 5. Write and communicate with your local, state, and federal representation, after Heller all are important. [/ |

It is impossible to speculate on a new ban. I doubt it will mirror the 1994 AWB. Before going out and buying a bunch of stuff "just in case", take a few minutes to e-mail every Senator and Representative in your state to let them know where you stand on any further gun control. |

There is already a new AWB in Congress right now. So write your delegates and get it put down emphasizing that they shouldnt be even thinking about such a thing right now, especially if they want to keep their jobs. http://www.govtrack.us/congress/billtext.xpd?bill=h110-6257 But basically, it mirrors the old one. It does have a grandfather clause though saying anything already registered is ok, so that would indicate as long as you have registered lowers your ok. But its not waiting for Obama, its there now. Introduced by a Republican of all things too.

There is ALWAYS a new bill going in or being reviewed to restate that law or make another one of some sort. Best thing is to ALWAYS write letters or call your represenatives and make it known to them that you will not vote for them if they sign on to such a law. Be proactive, not reactive.

Well said. +1 As soon as the average politician thinks we're not paying attention, one of these bills will slip through and get passed. Bug your reps continually. |

Rabbit, You could not have new mags. Only ones we could buy were Pre-bans. I bought several for $25 a piece. Compare that to $8-9 bucks now. You could not have a flashhider. Muzzle breaks and compensators were ok. You could not have a collapsable stock. Only style of that one was a pinned open stock. Most parts and lowers were available. Uppers too. Though in neutered form. As others have said, in the future there is no telling what a new AWB would look like. Ammo, mags and all types of firearms may be on the block. I have made a point to buy it in the last 4 years if I want it. Bought a few extra for my kids. I have diverted from firearms now, to mags, ammo, and reloading components for my 50 BMG. |

Well, there will always be fools. There will always by those who would show their underbelly to the beast trusting the beast not to harm them. There will always be those who have learned nothing from what history and the likes of Hitler, Mussolini and Stalin have taught us. I for one am glad that our leaders Ha....and here I was thinking it was a bunch of pussified legislators and judges combined with a gene pool that needs some bleach. I guess I was wrong ![]() Fight it.....fight it....fight it.....scream it, print it, post it....and never stop defending and holding dear what our forefathers, our families and our brothers in arms stood for and died for. This country was neither created by nor fought for by a bunch of pussies. |

We, obvously, have to keep our powder dry and pay attention to what the congresscritters do. However, the huge number of 'assault rifles' sold since the ban makes outright banning them more difficult. Thank you Bill Clinton, gun salesman extraordinaire. I think that ammo or mags might be the focus of future regulations. Moon |

As things stand right now, thanks to the Heller decision, Congress as a whole just isn't going to dare to pass ANY form of gun BAN. I think that we're TRULY safe from that proposition, on a federal level at least, more so than we've been for thirty years. Next round in the fight is the case just filed against Chicago's handgun ban. It WILL push for incorporation for the Second Amendment. And it will probalbly get it. Once that's been achieved, there will never again be a gun BAN by any state. ALL of them will be NULL AND VOID. CJ |
Why is this a surprise? Even the retard Helmke was a republican.
|
We have a winner. I think Heller just put the last nail in the coffin of any future federal AWB. I think many politicians will use Heller as an excuse NOT to vote for future AWB's even if they say they support them- it cost them way too many votes last time around, and Heller gives them an excuse to tell their supporters they are FOR gun control, but that nasty old SCOTUS just made it impossible to get anything passed. |

Hell, many people don't even realize there is no federal AWB ban now! I have been asked by people who should know better (avid hunters who are firm believers in gun ownership), how I can still be buying AK47s, they were banned years ago! then when I tell them that the ban expired years ago, they give me a funny look, like I am making shit up. |
Makes sense. Ban guns and criminals will still get them. Ban ammo or make it $1000 per 20rds in a few years no more problems. Except for the occasional burglary or robbery of ammo.

Remember, while congress makes the laws, ATF is tasked with investigating, interpreting and enforcing them. ![]() This is how they could make the "determination" that lowers without already installed pistol grips and telestocks were not considered "pre-ban" AW's, despite their having been manufactured prior to 9/13/94. ![]() While I heard of one or two folks getting tagged for adding pre-ban parts to post ban receivers, I don't know if anybody ever actually got charged with adding "pre-ban" accessories to a "post-ban" in name only receiver. But for those guys with a few dozen unassembled lowers in their basements, remember Santyana's quote about history... |
+1 on that. Obama will have someone challenge the whole heller case and he will do the dirty deed of selecting marxist supreme court judges before hand, thats IF he is elected. Right now i dont see an AWB if mc'cain is in office, but you never know these days, sadly. My advice is get one or 2 black rifle's built, then stock ammo and mags as much as you can without being in rediculous amounts of debt. Im stock piling ammo right now along with mags, ill buy 1000 rounds of either xm193 or prvi m855 and im always sure to get a few magazines along with everything. |

Any Judges likely up to be replaced are ones that voted against Heller anyways. There will be no reconsideration. You negative Nancy's act like the President is some super legislative god....they are not. There WILL BE NO FEDERAL ASSAULT WEAPONS BAN period. The only thing any of you need to worry about is legislation at your state level, and thats only until we can get the second Incorporated, which will likely not be too far off. |
