Who else saw the asteroid go by?
Passed Wisconsin about 1:29 lit up the sky like daylight. The sonic booms hit about 3 minutes later.

Is that WTF I heard?  It spounded like someone was scraping my wall. I'm sitting here at the desk with the windows closed in the bedroom.  I thought my wife and kid were sleeping, I was thinking "what the hell is he doing???" sounded like the kid drug his dresser across the wall.

I wish I knew it was coming. I would have watched.

Edit:  I'm an hour north of Milwaukee.

Yup
I sent a text to some family members jokingly telling them that we almost died.

Also if anyone knows of any cameras overlooking Winnebago or Michigan that would be a good place to find video.

I'd love to see the footage from a staring satellite.

HOLY SHIT!  I caught it on my dash cam here in Wilmington Illinois.

I woke up and saw this thread, and figured why not check my cam.

Sure the fuck enough!  I need to learn ow and where to host the video, or I'll make a new thread once I do.

This is completely awesome.

I'm about 50 miles south of Chicago.

Here's the dash cam footage from my vehicle.  I back into the driveway when I get home, and the cam operates in 720p in parking mode.  I wish I could have caught it in 1080p regular mode.

Not the best video, but the coolest thing I ever caught on my dash cam.

ETA: a direct link to the video, thanks to RR_Broccoli.

Well in all fairness it did spend far more time as an asteroid than it ever did as a bolide.

We are in Eastern Iowa. Wife said the dogs got silly, ran around the house and the Big one wanted outside. They woke her up with their Antics. I wish I had been home, I was at work, in Wisconsin. We had no idea anything occurred, being indoors and machinery running. I love seeing those Meteors come in, pretty cool, a little scary if you think about it. You would not hear the one that killed you.

That's pretty damn cool.  I love seeing meteors entering the atmosphere.  Every once in a while, I'll see a big one that leaves a vapor trail.

When I was a kid, 7th or 8th Grade (that was around 88 or 89), my dad and I were on the way home from basketball practice and saw probably the coolest thing that I have ever seen in the sky.

I'm looking off to the right and saw a light in the sky that at first I thought was a copter or plane, but it kept getting brighter and bigger.  We pulled over and watched as what was eventually verified as a Russian Booster rocket re-entering the atmosphere.  It got wide, burst into flames, and left a fiery vapor trail behind it.  You could actually see it burning as it went over head.  If only cell phone cameras had been invented by then.

I do not think so.   I can't give you a size but perhaps it was the size of a baseball.   Call it a meteoroid before it entered our atmosphere.

Consider contacting the American Meteor Society to see if they can use that footage to help create the orbit of that object.

Nice video capture!

My wife and I were sitting on the shore at the lake one night and saw one streak by. It was perfect. We were looking perpendicular to the flight path, it was dark and clear, and the thing was a massive fire ball. Definitely a sight to see.

More cameras and in some cases better tracking.

I love going out to the desert to watch the meteor showers.
Honestly, things like meteors don't scare me. If a big one hits us, it is pretty much game over and there isn't a damn thing any of us can do about it.
Therefore, no reason to stress over it.
