| I cut the cord and went with an over the air antenna. The problem is my cable box (along with multiple other devices) went to my receiver and then a HDMI went from receiver to the TV hidden in the walls. The wiring was professionally done. The cable box is gone now and the receiver has no TV tuner. I do not want to run the cable directly to the TV (and the and optical back to the receiver). What are my options? I have heard I can get a TiVo. Cable will go to that just like my old box then HDMI to receiver and get sound and picture. However then I would have a monthly bill. Is there another way? |

Run the antenna coax to the antenna in on the back of the TV. Run the variable audio out on the TV to the receiver, either by the red and white RCA jacks or digital out.
A inexpensive coax line amp will help give better reception to distant broadcasting tower locations. |

I know I can do that, trying to avoid it. is there something with a TV tuner that I can put in place of the old cable box? |

Buy the TiVo Roamio with the life time service. It is about $400 but includes 4 tuners and DVR. You can also access Netflix with it. It's a little pricey, but only a few months worth of the bill you were paying This is the only answer. I keep checking on over the air DVR's for friends. There are some decent ones but they seem to be light years away from what Tivo has to offer. Maybe it is the lower price point maybe its because Tivo has been doing this since 1999. But buy once and cry once. 2 tuners are not enough during prime time sometimes. Get the Tivo Roamio and think of it as an investment in cord cutting. If you decide to go back to cable/satellite sell it for 50-75% of what you paid for it on Ebay. |

Search for "digital converter box" on amazon or the like, select one with an HDMI output, connect it to your AV Receiver and be done with it. Way too many people here not understanding the problem. Telling him to get a DVR or use the ARC port does not address what he is trying to do. Hell, he can't even use the ARC port until he gets a convertor box in the first place. |
