Waiting on barrels from FN... https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-snc7/386955_10151129578471259_196617099_n.jpg https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-snc6/226265_10151129279451259_472190978_n.jpg Is there any word on them doing an A2 styled receiver? Months back, Steyr told me over the phone that an "integral optic" version could come later. That would indicated being built off the A2, since the SF A3 seems to be using A2 receivers. Steyr has also indicated that they have 10,000 of the A3 receivers. I wouldn't hold my breath for either the A2 or A3 SF receivers unless we are graced by the Austrians kindness... FWIW, Manticore Arms has some mounts planned for the A3 that bolt directly to the receiver in place of the rail. You may want to IM Dawg180 The rail of the A3 receivers simply bolt on, Manticore showed a prototype of a mount that looks like the original A1 AUG, but it has 30mm rings for a nice 1-6 optik or whatever to sit in it... IM dawg180, he's the man in the know. |
I just might pick one up and chop the hell out of it. I hope the quality is as good as the old Austrian AUGs.
I would buy one for $700-800 otherwise I will stick with AR15's
ummmmm
What was he hitting to release the bolt ? Seemed far back on the stock - like the MSAR thing |
Ok hadn't seen that photo
Don't mind that as much as whatever MSAR did Looks sorta like my A1 might have a bother/sister coming home to the safe |

DIDN'T HE GET BANED? Who? If it is who I think you are alluding to... that was way before your and my time on this site... Are you familiar? |

In the bullpup subforum, Pete from PJS has a great thread You can read it HERE.
If you are not familiar with Pete or PJS, he is unequivocally the only expert of all things Steyr AUG in the United States. He's been dealing in AUG's before some members of this site were born... Below is part of his post in GD for more people to see: We had the pleasure to be invited to the Steyr Arms facility this week to observe their endurance testing for a couple of days on the new AUG A3 Vltor receivers.
By the way the receivers look great! Eric and his crew at Vltor do great work! 16,000 rounds are fired through the receiver by an Austrian Steyr AUG engineer, Alex Giesen & Steyr Arms Master Gunsmith Herbert G. Zero malfunctions occurred through the testing! We did sit and discuss future plans for the US Steyr AUG market, great things will be coming out of Steyr in the near future. We will work on getting new Steyr AUG products to market very soon! |

They look nice, cleaner than the Sabre I played with. They do look cleaner. It's nice to have the Vltor engraving "hidden" rather than right out there like the Sabre receivers. |

I really, really, REALLY want an AUG barrel in 1:7 twist so I can shoot heavy ammo.

They also did a better, almost unnoticeable, job of cleaning up the chop job up front. That really bugged me about the Sabre. I have been accused of being overly detail orientated perfectionist. |

Some interesting things coming apparantly...

Any trigger news?
Competition smallbore triggers have spoiled me to most bullpups. |

I hope green is an option soon. An AUG is on my list of things to acquire.

I can't stand the A3 model . The classic Aug is where my love shall always be. They took a sleek design and porked it out. I will pick one up and see what a little chopping can do. Glad to see the longer barrels. |
I'd love to have an A3, but I don't want the multitude of rails on it, and would love having a scope assembly based on the original scope design that can be attached to the top rail.
I love my A3. Can't wait for the Steyr barrels to come out. I'll need to pick up a 20" and an HBAR if they ever make one of those. Original/A1 units are pricy to come by...wound up selling one of my Commando barrels for a tidy profit the other year. The one I have left is new in wrap...
I was able to pick up a military top rail from Pete not too long ago and swapped it in, replacing the "standard" rail the ones here were sold with. The Austrian scope that Pete also sells is muuuuuuuuch more comfortable to use with the taller/longer rail. As far as improving the trigger pull goes, there's a few solutions out there. The one I have is sold by http://www.neu-trigger.com/ (link left cold on purpose). I'm not advertizing for them nor am I saying "you need to buy this one!!", I'm simply stating what works for me. There are other solutions out there as well that may not be as expensive. This one worked for me. YMMV, and do some checking before you buy regardless of the vendor. |
I would be willing to wager that these will not be for sale in CA.
Wake me when the factory .22 conversion is in stock and shipping.
AUGs are dang fun.
These are now available for sale. Price is < 2k from varying dealers.

Interesting piece of information:
Bit of 2012 AUG A3 History Here.... Since the new AUG A3s are now shipping I wanted to take a moment and thank Pete Athens owner of Pja Company for his involvement in helping bring the AUG A3 to market this year. Without him the AUG A3 would be months if not a year away from shipping again. How did he do that you ask? When Sabre Defense shut down they had thousands of Steyr AUG parts including finished receivers and over 5000 AUG receiver castings. By Court Order all the Steyr items were to be Auctioned off by John H. Heldreth and Associates Liquidation Sells in Hendersonville, TN. Pja Company was contacted by John H. Heldreth and Associates to come and evaluate the parts and make an offer if interested in acquiring them. Pete Athens quickly contacted Steyr Arms and discussed the Steyr Parts liquidation offer with them. Steyr Arms having been affiliated with Sabre Defense was not allowed to bid on the items. Pete Athens was able to negotiate a bid offer which allowed Steyr Arms to acquire the parts. With Pete's help Steyr was able to obtain over $500,000 worth of AUGs parts for less the $100,000. What did Pete ask from Steyr in return, nothing. He just loves seeing the AUG available for sale in the US market. Pete Athens is just not another Steyr AUG "dealer" He's probably the most dedicated person to the Steyr AUG rifle platform. This is just another good reason he is know as the go to Steyr AUG Guy! Steyr Arms to Publicly Unveil New AUG/A3 and will Host Wes Doss’ Bullpup Tactics Seminar at 2012 Bullpup Shoot
TRUSSVILLE, Ala. (September 14, 2011) — Steyr Arms has announced that it has signed on as a sponsor of the 2012 Bullpup Shoot, Sept. 29-30, at the Rockcastle Shooting Center in Park City, KY. Open to the public, this event marks the first showing of the newest version of the AUG/A3 SA rifle, and in cooperation with its strategic training partner, Khyber Interactive Associates, Steyr will have Wes Doss on hand for a very special bullpup tactics seminar during the afternoon of the 29th. While Steyr Arms began shipping its new AUG/A3 SA USA—with its cold-hammer-forged barrel and tulip-style muzzle brake—to dealers late last month, unless you pre-ordered a rifle, it’s unlikely that you’ll see one on the dealer’s wall anytime soon. But you’ll have a chance to see, hold and even fire the AUG/A3 SA USA on the line at the 2012 Bullpup Shoot. Steyr Arms will have loaded magazines available for a small donation, and all proceeds will go directly to the Wounded Warrior Foundation. And, if you’re the one lucky shooter who wins the drawing at the conclusion of the Saturday events, you could take an AUG/A3 SA USA home. Khyber Interactive Associates founder and world-renowned instructor Wes Doss will conduct a free bullpup-oriented tactics seminar on Saturday afternoon. This seminar is a combative-oriented review designed for personnel who are looking for enhanced knowledge and skills of the tactical carbine, specifically the bullpup platform and its application at ranges from contact distance out to no greater than 50 yards. The course focuses on techniques that have a broad array of applications for the bullpup system, including patrol operations, emergency response, close-quarters deployment and intermediate-range applications. The course is designed to provide a high degree of personal development topics concentrating on those areas that will enable the professional to become a more effective operator. Schedule permitting, Doss has planned a series of live-fire exercises for pre-registered attendees after the open seminar concludes. These shooters must bring their own firearm, 100 rounds of ammunition, eye and hearing protection, and a ball cap or any other hat with a bill. Slots are limited, and to pre-register for one of these live-fire exercises, please visit the Bullpup Forums at http://bullpupforum.com/index.php?board=23.0 to sign up. “We are extremely excited to attend the 2012 Bullpup Shoot and spend some time with the ever-growing bullpup community,” said Scott O’Brien, Steyr Arms CEO. “Wes has an amazing bullpup seminar planned, and we’re grateful for him generously providing his time and knowledge to the attendees. “This is a unique event, and it is the perfect place to debut the latest version of the AUG/A3 SA USA,” O’Brien continued. “And did I mention that you could win one?” For more information on the 2012 Bullpup Shoot, visit www.bullpupshoot.com.
