It's happening on the 21st of August. Just thought I'd let you know. |

Quoted: What are the major domestic issues of Australia? What are the major parties and candidates positions? Is Australia starting to pursue an austerity budget as much of Europe is? Immigration, health, education, economy-specifically debt. Those are the main issues they are pressing. The 2 major parties are Labor and Liberal. Labor is more left wing like the US Democrats. Liberal is more conservative like the US Republicans. The Labor candidate is Julia Gillard, the Liberal candidate is Tony Abbott. |

I'm curious what are the major immigrant groups in Australia? Mostly from the pan-Pacific or from elsewhere? I know every election matters but is this viewed as an especially important or landmark election? |

Quoted: how's julia doing so far? better than rudd? Pretty fucking bad actually. The other week, she announced that they will open an immigration processing facility in East Timor. Problem is, nobody had told East Timor. Many people are still pissed off about how she overthrew rudd. It now appears that she and rudd had an agreement, where he would be given until around october to improve his popularity, and if he was still not popular enough, he would step aside for her. It appears that agreement was broken once she realised she could depose him immediately. |

Yep. The polls conceal the disproportionate support she has in Victoria compare to the other states. I've spoken to some in-the-know Liberals and they are quietly confidant of a small victory. WA is gone, QLD is pissed off Julia kicked out their Golden Boy and the NSW guys are just itching to vote against the Labor Party, anywhere, any time. I'm a bit disappointed that Kevin didn't stick around - that would have been a hilarious blood-bath. But the victory will be very sweet if Julia is defeated by Abbott. The lefties will lose their mind in a hilarious way. |

The whole boat people issue is ridiculous, to be honest. I agree that they should be sent to Nauru and generally be discouraged, but the fact remains the importance of the issue in the electorate is ridiculously disproportional to the actual problem. |
