Time to re-do the tint in my truck, never done it myself before, always had one of those window tint places do it for me on my previous vehicles (on clean glass). Gonna be more expensive this time if I go that route again (most places charge $75 to $100 or more for tint removal). Thinking about doing it myself, was curious if it's worth the effort just to save some $$$. Hivemind, what say ye? |

Try a spot yourself. Depending on the quality of the original film, how it was installed, and what it's been through since, removal can range from super-simple to $#%^*&!!! Anything with ammonia in it will disolve the tint adhesive, but it might take some time. Also, not all Windex (or copy-cats) contain ammonia - check the ingredients. |

Pay someone to do it who will warranty the tint against bubbles and peeling. Doing it yourself is a major pain in the sack and if it bubbles you will have the car that people look at and say "that guy saved $100 and now has the most hideous windows on earth, good job". x156 |
You can remove factory tint with a big rock.  Removing tint, I will do. Installing it, leave it to a pro. If you screw up a sheet, you are easily approaching the cost of a pro, and if he screws it up, the price doesn't change. |

I use to do tint............. To remove tint from windows with no dot matrix, use a flat razor blade with scraper handle using soapy water only. Special chemicals are used when removing tint from windows with dot matrix's. NOTE:....Never use Windex on tint to clean your windows........Ammonia in it will strip/streak the tint, it will ruin it. if any body wants I can do a brief how-to for tint install, some secrets shared. |
