I am applying for my FFL & SOT and just spoke with an agent who will be visiting me Nov. 6th for the inspection. I just want to know what to expect from their visit. She told me on the phone that a Brownells log book would be good to have and that should be arriving soon. Any advice from FFL folks would be great. |
Thanks for the advise. I plan on wearing dress slacks and a dress shirt. I want to represent my business as professional as I can. I do have a fireproof Liberty safe that only I have access to, that will be used for storing firearms for the business. I have been approved for zoning in the city I live in for business out of my home and I have a valid business license. I also have a website that I will be using for business, not sure if they will need that information or not. So it sounds like if everything goes well with the agents I should be up and running soon. How long after the visit does it take to get my FFL? After that it is the fun part of paying someone to build my site, which costs a pretty penny!! |
since now is the time to ask questions.. . is mentioning the website a good idea.. I always thought they didnt think highly of gunshow/websales only dealers ? just asking since there seems to be people with experience in the matter here,, |
Good question! Thanks for the feedback guys. Just want to do things RIGHT!! If anybody can think of anything or has feedback please chime in. |
Don't you need a letter from a LE agency in order to get post '86 "samples"? And does one letter let you acquire all the post samples you wish, from M16s to Tommy guns to a Lewis? Or does the letter need to specify makes/models? |
I agree that not a lot will be made from firearms sales. The markup isn't a whole lot. Its all the other stuff that I will be selling that I should turn a profit on. This will be a part time gig until it I can justify doing it full time. I will remain optimistic in my future endeavors!! |
by all means remain optimistic and i wish you the best of luck in it. however, be prepared. for every good customer there are 10 cumgargling monkeymounting sonsofbitches waiting around the corner that will have you waste days getting them prices and information so that they can then buy something online and save 5%................... or any other of the wonderful scenarios i've run across. |
|
You probably spoke to an inspector, who does not have arrest authority. You have it made, they will have a little interest in your business plan and it sounds like you have all bases covered. Charge 50 for transfers and that will pay for your FFL and yearly SOT in no time. |
Witness the recurring BOTACH Tactical thread. 1st post: Has anyone heard of BOTACH? They have great prices! 2nd post: AGNTSA 3rd post: They suck, run away! 4th post: They still owe me either a product or money, dammit.... 5th post: (OP) I placed my order and saved $10 on an EOtech. Sweet! 6th post: (OP again) I resurrected this thread because its been six weeks and I still haven't gotten my EOtech. All my friends had theirs at the shoot and I didn't have mine yet. Is there anything I can do? Repeat every six weeks, in perpetuity. |
turns out my inspector was the brother of the guy who voices John Redcorn in King of the Hill..................we had a pretty good laugh about that one |
Well the AFT agent just left (dogs are safe ). Everything went well and I am approved! Should have my FFL in 2 to 4 weeks she said. The gal was very pleasant and professional. She was dressed very casual and did not "look" like an ATF agent. Glad that is out of the way now. Next on my list is my Class3/SOT form once I get my FFL
|
That's because she is not an agent. Agents do not visit for this type of thing. It was an Inspector. |
They must train for raids and such too, right? |
Inspectors? No, they are not armed and generally do not do the raid stuff. They do the audits of your records and inventroy. They also audit people who use explosives; mines, quarries, etc. |
Yeah...I am still waiting on my flashlight bulb. Bastards.
|
Sweet! That seems easier than I expected it would be! |
Gotcha. I don't think she was carrying either. Hard to tell with the sweater she was wearing. |
How was the anal-probing? |
Thanks. I have a guy that is going to charge around 3k for what I want. In town where I live it was as high as 10k. |
Found the site, but not "when the ATF comes calling", do you have a link to it? |

A good to at least a few responses have been helpful. This is arfcom some you have to weed thru the immaturity. They will want to verify your stated business addy is zoned for business. If you are working from your home they will want a copy of your sub division covenants (if applicable). She will review some thjings you need to knoiw and give you some sample documents and review how to fill them out. She will also review your location for security and generally get to know you (make an accessment) as to wether yoiu are a good guy. Mine was very laid back and the "agent" was very friendly and helpful. In fact all of my dealings with the ATF have been positive (despite the immature comments to the contrary). IM if you want more specific info as I'm sure some of the kiddies will want to flame me. Bomber |
I've read that before. I think it needs an annnual reading. TXL |
In my case the inspectors actually noted my "plentitude" of dogs as a security plus. Now I have a total of TEN (although 6 are still neel nippers and would rather lick you to death). Anybody need a Basset hound? |
