[ARCHIVED THREAD] - BCG stuck inside upper (Page 1 of 2)

Just got my Aero M5 308 upper back from ADCO today. Put in my BCM mod4 CH and toolcraft 308 BCG. Dry fired once and can't charge the rifle.
Pop the upper off the lower, appears the bolt lugs are still rotated and engaged inside the barrel extension. How do I fix this? *cross posted in tech* Mortared it out, now trying to diagnose |
| I dont know the design of your particular 308, but it was a known issue with the MK11/SR25, that if the FP retaining pin did not catch the FP, then it was not fully thru the cam pin, and the cam pin would rotate out of position and now allow the bolt and carrier to move to the rear. The fix, if you could not just jimmy the cam pin back into position, was to loosen the barrel and then jimmy the bolt. |

I had this same problem with my PSA PA 10, the extractor was the problem I was able to get the bolt to "unlock" by slipping a small flat tip screw driver into the open space and prying back on the bolt. It took some effort but it got it out. It magically worked the next time? |

And then what? It magically worked the next time? Quoted:

you asked for advice, he gave you his answer to a similar experience, then you throw sarcasm that's cool, I guess I'm genuinely looking for help |

Well I encouraged it enough. Now to diagnose the issue New BCG/Barrel? Just shoot it. I had a sticky bolt/extension that required me to mortar the damn thing probably 5 times within the first 60 rounds. After some lube and just shooting a couple more mags, it broke in and was fine. No issues 6000+ rounds later. |

Are you sure the firing pin was in? |

What is meant by mortaring it? ![]() Fortress Combat Arts: AR 15 Malfunction; bolt stuck forward cleared by mortaring |
| There is a little nub on the top forward end of the BCM .308 Gunfighter charging handle. Some .308 AR upper receivers are machined differently in the area of the charging handle slot just above the gas tube. The nub on top of the Gunfighter CH is likely wedging the CH tightly between the upper receiver and the bolt carrier. Try a standard .308 AR charging handle. If that cures the problem, then decide whether or not you want to grind off the little nub on the Gunfighter CH. |

This is most likely. I read in Walt Kulek's book that if the cam pin is not retained properly and rotates out of position, the bolt essentially becomes a permanent part of the upper receiver. However, after some sweating and anxiety, I was able to jiggle it free with a straightened paper clip and a spare BCG to use as a reference to guide me where to poke. |
