I ordered some digital camo via www.uscav.com .... They were advertised as being 65% polyester/35% cotton twill. I thought 65% polyester/35% cotton twill was summer weight....the rip stop type. What I received was winter weight BDU's.... Did I get what I ordered or what? BTW....no tags inside saying what they are made of. They are Tru-Spec brand if that helps. |

Sounds like you got what you ordered pal. BTW, it is my fav blend and find it warm in winter and cool in summer. I find the ripstop too thin which allows too much stuff through to your skin, thorns etc, and when wet it clings to you. I'd give it a try before you send it back but then I use mine in the field all weather not as range or casual wear. Tj |
I'm like TJ, I wasn't impressed with ripstops either. Matter of fact, when they were first issued, I don't think that I'd gotten a day's wear out of the one set, when I caught it on something. "Rip stop" my ass - it kept ripping, if nothing else. Ended up sewing it up and using that top for field use only, not garrison. |

All of my issued Hot Weather BDU's are ripstop 50% nylon and 50% cotton. This blend holds up and keep color MUCH better than the old 100% cotton ripstop uniforms. Ripstop totally loses all meaning the first time it comes in contact with concertina wire, especially when on night patrol and you don't see it coming. Interestingly enough, one of my sets is 50% nylon, 49% cotton, and 1% carbon fiber. I got them issued year ago at basic training, but they don't seem to hold up any better than the 50/50 sets. Cold weather BDU's are worthless IMHO... they hold moisture, and you should layer if it is that cold. YMMV -Randy |
| All the BDU's I have ever been issued since around 99-00 were all ripstop NYCO or winter weight NYCO. The nylon cotton ripstop isn't bad. I ordered some of the digital camo. you are referring too. Seems to be durable stuff but its in that cloth you usually see on civilian cammies - poly/cotton. The only other type of actual BDU's I've seen was the all-cotton ripstop. Not sure what MARPAT is made of - think its ripstop though...... |
