What are some of the construction techniques used in the US militarys BDUs.  IE. Serged hems, etc.  Im doing this for a project but couldnt find the information anywhere.

I am NOT trying to be a smart ass but try this in the womens forum. I know they have some people who sew and would understand what a Serged hem is.

Have you tried reverse-engineering a pair? get one and then get a seam ripper and see how it's assembled that way. It would also give you template pieces for making a future pair.

Used bdu's are cheep to nothing now a days.

just get some and save your time and money

I know the ass is done differently than say a pair of jeans. instead of a single seam down the middle it goes into a sort of Y and there's an extra piece of material

Im a novice at sewing and am still learning so I dont yet know all the technical terms, ec.

But I do know tat BDUs havea a felled inseam, outseam, and seat seam.

what does sewing have to do with being a decent soldier?


I can put a     crappy stich in my  uniform to put on a patch or rank but beyond that NILL.

but I bet I can out shoot most of you all and have received nothing less that the highest ratings for my 12 years in the service.

Wow, you can shoot.  
A good soldier know a lot of things.  Shooting is only one of them.
Sewing is a sustainment skill.  It's worth knowing.
