My older son's best friend since 4th grade has been like another son to me. I dragged him out to Montana in 2009 to whack Prairie Dogs for the first time. Seen here with younger son (member DK223) overlooking the best dog town on the planet. Mike has a mild case of BRD & was using his own built AR15 to blow up pasture pups.
These benches are the finest things for covering a Prairie Dog town with suppressive fire.
Mike is a wood shop teacher at a nearby high school. He's a genuine craftsman in his own right.
Last year while on Prairie Dog Safari 2012, a pal of mine from KY bought my swivel bench. So Mike was tasked with building me a replacement swivel bench. This is the third one he's done. It's a copy of a copy of a BR Pivot with a couple small changes.
Last year's model with the new owner taking it for a test drive. It has a heavy plywood top with a handle integrated into it.
Today I received a text from Mike saying "I left something on your porch". This time he out did himself. I am truly impressed. This is a work of art.
Mike does precise enough work that the bench top is ambidextrous. It's done by simply removing 4 bolts, turn the top over on the swiveling pedestal and reinstalling the bolts. It works well for a lefty like me & I can share it with the rest of you folks who are in your right mind.
The top is glued up Cherry, Oak, Ash, Maple & Black Walnut. It's nicer than some of the furniture we have in the house. It has inlaid cherry with "Molon Labe" and AR15 bolt face logo on the left side.
On the right side is the bolt face logo that has been relieved and inset with a CNC and thinly coated in black.

Very cool.
Is that private land?
We don't have any spots that big anywhere around here without trees all over.

That's some beautiful work! Woodworking is something I've dabbled in as a hobby for years, and I plan on getting serious about it after I retire. Shooting benches would be an interesting thing to make and sell....
