I recently realized that I am just about helpless without reading glasses. I couldn't disassemble an AR bolt/carrier without them. I probably couldn't diagnose a double-feed without them. Do you have a pair of specs in your butt trap? In your BoB? Another pair in your glove box? In the RH pocket of each suit coat or the bib of each pair of overalls? GO CHECK NOW!

I've got like six pair now.

A few more and I might be able to find a pair when I need one.

I have my old pair, my go fasters and I even got the prescription glasses for inside a gas mask still.

Good idea....

My arms have been getting short the past couple years.

Ummm, dude....unless that's a technical term for a technical thingy, what you said was a little, weird if you get my drift...

I only have one pair of glasses if the SHTF.  I used to have two, but only one.  And they aren't in my "butt trap."

Butt trap= small compartment in the back of a rifle stock.  often used to store a cleaning kit, though can be used to store anything that fits the compartment, including glasses

Thanks N_T, sorry if I sounded weird, but it just sounded wrong.

understood... it's not exactally a commonly used term outside of the gun nut circle

No, but it's a damn good idea.

I have 4 pairs.  Two straight readers - prescription/good frames.  One bi-focal with almost clear on top (was 20/20 far sighted).  One set up extra powerful grocery store cheapies.    Can't read anything without them anymore.  Was looking at pistols today and had to get my glasses to see them clearly up close.

Does it seem like the more you wear them the worse your eyes get?  Might just be the age thing, but until I started wearing glasses for reading (which I do a lot on my job), my distance vision is a little less sharp than it was.

no, glasses contribute to detiorating sight.  you begin to rely on them more, then your eye relaxes and your vision gets worse... it's a vicious cycle

Used to keep two pair in my car, two in my ruck, etc.

Now, thanks to the wonders of modern science, our collective tax dollars, and even the Air Force, I see 20/10 in both eyes.

You DO understand that as you age, your short-focus vision goes to hell right?  It has nothing to do with "training" your eye or anything.

Wait until you are 40, and then you'll suddenly realize what the old geezers are talking about.

Yes, I'm 43 and you are exactly right.  It's my distance vision I'm concerned about.

Without my glasses on you look like that kid Ralphie in the movie Christmas Story

I've had better than 20/20 all my life, until my mid-40's. My mother, 79, does not need glasses to drive. My younger brother has been a military pilot for 20 years, and still makes his living at flying. He has also recently needed glasses to read the fine print.

I'll tell you, its different needing glasses. I'm NOT used to it!

Nope, I have 20/15 in both eyes.

If and when I ever need glasses, I'll get laser surgery. I would hate to have to actually wear glasses.

Yep, that's why us old folks shuffle their feet and move really slow.  Hard to see the deviations in elevation from 6' above grade.

Yeah, and the air has gotten thinner over the past twenty years, too. I used to practically run up hills and now I sound like a locomotive by the time I get to the top. Trails have gotten steeper, too; must be some plot by the forest service to keep me out of the woods - they used to be built at  much less of a slope. And don't even get me started on the changes in time the .gov has made over the years. I think they have artificially lengthened the minute until we have a much longer day. I used to work 12 hours w/o getting tired; now I work 12 hours and I'm beat. They must have made minutes longer - what other explanation is there?

You know, I tend to think the anti N_T guys are worse than the original, but when you spout of nonsense like this I have to wonder...

I got bad news for you - when you get old enough to need reading glasses, laser surgery won't be of any help - different underlying cause for different problems.  Mabe we;ll all be lucky and they'll cure the aging process in the next 10 years or so.
